Out of 30 cars parallel parked, it had to hit MY windshield, figures with my luck with cars lately. Luckily it only hit the windshield and nothing else.

Sorry to see the damage, I know how it feels. A security gate feel on my windshield last year and destroyed it.

Fortunately for you though, your insurance will cover it, and there is only OEM glass available.

There are several brands of aftermarket window glass available. Sorry to hear, but the windshield is one of the least expensive parts to have to replace on the front of the car, so it's not all that bad.

That stinks! Better the windshield than the roof, though... Hope you at least won the game.

That's strange, because when I called all of the major replacement shops, not one of them could locate aftermarket glass for me.
But then again, they probably don't have as much experience in locating parts like you.

Oh well, my insurance picked up the entire bill anyway.

When you call the auto-glass place, make sure they also purchase OEM rubber molding along the top of the windshield (the notorious piece that always shrinks).

Its a insert once only part, and should not be reused.

If you don't tell your auto-glass company when they order the glass, you'll end up waiting longer when they come to install it and realize the rubber molding is a single-use application and have to order it, delaying your window replacement.

So just let them know up front.. if they dispute it tell them to call the dealership themselves to verify for themselves.

Just saving ya some time.... been there, done that.
