Does anyone regret exhaust and/or supercharger mods?

I must admit that I have never heard a Tubi exhaust and I may be missing something. However, there is a huge difference between what factory considers sporty and what aftermarket produces as "sporty sound". If the Tubi really gives the NSX a Ferrari sound then you might be right. I have been a passenger, never driven , an F355, and in my opinion the sound was great for the 50 miles I was a passenger on it, but, would I like to live with that sound on an everyday basis? Idon't think so.

I must hear a Tubi and ride on an NSX with it one of these days. Anyone in North Cal with a Tubi willing to demonstrate?

As always, just my 2 ¢ and everyone is welcome to disagree.

1hotnsx, I personally really really dont like loud on something i'm driving around. a racing only vehicle--like motorcylces i used to race--i can deal with.

to clarify, my stock exhaust(91) didnt give me enough auditory feedback. I wanted the full range through the rpm band. stock was really hard to hear and not really pleasant in many parts of the band. the tubi solves this(for me); not LOUD, but very guttural in lower rpms--nice crescendo, not loud at all in the cabin, id say only slightly louder than stock at highway speeds. BUT if you nail it at highway speeds you can hear it--at higher rpms--something the stock didnt do for me either. It really sounds like a stock exhaust that has balls. Pretty close to the ferrari sound, as others have mentioned before. Its quiet when your putting around and you really dont notice--punch the throttle and you can hear it. The sound also seems to get more resonant/deeper with miles--which is pleasing to me and one of the things i liked about the ferrari sound. really really completes the vtec whoosh.

hope that helps

Where does the highly prized induction noise that is unique to the stock NSX come into play in this discussion? In my OEM setup, full throttle brings on, in no uncertain terms, a very loud, powerful, and sweet wail from the engine compartment. Do the exhause systems being discussed here drown out this sound?

Bailey,

I did have the Tubi on for the Poker Rally, Keith's red one also had it on that day.

Sven and Mike,

I have not particularly notice it drowning out the intake sound. I have a stock intake. At this point we can all give our collective interpretation in words, but you REALLY need to go for a drive in an NSX, with the setup. This will answer all questions!! At this point I believe there are 40 Tubi's here, not sure if all are installed, but they are around. Going to NSXPO?? I am sure there will be a few there.

That would answer alot of questions, but I don't have the luxury of being there right now. In face, i've never even ridden in another NSX. If the chance ever comes up, i'll take it.

Mike,

You need to get to a few of our NE NSXCA events next season. I do one in NY and LarryG from Palmyra comes up. That it not far from you correct?? We would love to have you join us. Past years has brought 20+ NSX's to our events.

You can go to www.nsxuppereast.com to see some pics of NE events.

Also there is the River Run in South Jersey (a little closer), LimeRock, New Hampshire, and Virginia (or maybe Maryland??).

You can come up and take mine for a spin and see how you like it. And we do have some very nice roads up here in New York State too!!!

I love that sound! But now with the BBSC and a cold air intake mod, my NSX sounds like a jet airplane cruising around.. The whine of the supercharger just gives me a chubby.

Can someone please complain about the Tubi and how they wish that someone would ship them a oem exhaust and 500 bucks to trade back.

I have first dibbs if this gets any sort of reply from such a person.

uuummm, sure. my tubi sucks. im tellin everyone not to buy one. im gonna be keepin mine though cause im too cheap to have it removed even though i cant hear the vtec at all, and it sounds really ricey just like those ferraris. so, its just me and those ferraris runnin around and we all hate it but we're stuck with it. oh well.

I can answer on the SC. I would not go back to stock! I love the extra power on moderate acceleration. Wide open throttle can make your visual perception change. ( You know what I mean if you have ever pushed a very fast car before. Tunnelvision seems to kick in.) I never experienced this on my car pre-SC. I still run factory exhaust. Car is a 97.
Great sleeper NSX if you can call our cars sleepers.

Private me if you have more questions.

Well... I hope you Tubi guys really like them cause I bought one today

I hope the BBSC doesn't blow it out.. heheh well... that's next year.. or the year after that. Come to think of it, a few years ago I never thought i'd have an NSX, let alone a new one! now this.... where does it stop!

btw.. its the responses I got here that helped make up my mind. Thanks guys!

If you want to come to Belmont on a weekend or Monday we are both free on (SF Bay Area), I would be happy to take you for a demo ride of the Tubi exhaust. See my review of the Tubi for more info.

This is less true with the top off on a Targa as the wind noise somewhat drowns it out.

Chip,
Thanks for the ride offer and the link to your previous post . I might take you up on it when I have more free time to go to Belmont.

However, the quote from that post above describes exactly the sound that I find objectionable after a while. It's really tiring for me to have to listen to that droning hour after hour, after hour. Like I said before, it's a cool sound and it's great for a while, but once one has had a few cars with aftermarket exhausts, one does not want anymore.

That review you wrote was very helpful. Perhaps it should be required reading for those considering an aftermarket exhaust

I was one of the first Tubi buyers with Tino's initial 10 imported in the US. I would never, I say never, go back. I hear some of the louder exhausts when I am not in the car and say wow! compared to the Tubi, then realize that the noise will be where ever I go if it is attached to my car.

Is it louder than stock? Yes. Can I hear the stock exhaust over the airbox? No. I think the Tubi is really the best of all worlds. Loud enough to notice, deep enough to "feel" good, and looks spectacular to boot. Is it worth the money? That is up to you to decide. Would I ever change, even if someone offered to trade a Gruppe M or ARC? Never, and I really like those exhausts!
