Hi,
Anyone knows if we are required to have license plate on the front bumper? I don't want to put screws in my car. Any suggestion?
Thanks a whole lot

It is the law that if two license plates are issued, both have to be placed on the vehicle. You don't have to drill holes. The OEM plate mounting frame bolts to pre-existing holes on the underside of the bumper. There are also options other than the OEM frame. SOS and Dali carry these. You could also simply fabricate your own using some form of angled bracket.

It's assembly #2 (image from www.acuraoemparts.com). The two horizontal arms are where the bolts go through to the underside and middle of the bumper (#1).

Here is SOS's license plate holder.

To be in compliance with the law, you should have two. If you are unable to get it from the previous owner, you'll have to apply for a new one.

Legally you have to have both plates on your car in CA. One in the front and one in the back.

But...many NSX and exotic cars do not put them on the front. The worst that can happen is that a cop pulls you over for not having a front license plate. He smells marijuana coming from the car. He asks to inspect the car and he finds a kilo of cocaine. He throws you in jail and now you are facing hard time for intent to distribute.

Or the other scenerio is that he writes you a fix-it ticket. You put your front license plate on with zip ties, pay your $10-$15, and find a cop to write it off. As soon as he writes it off, you cut the zip ties and the game starts over again.

To get another license plate, you can go to the DMV or AAA (for members). At AAA office they have license plates there and you will pay a small fee $10-$20. You surrender your old license plate and they give you a new license plate and stickers there on the spot.

Yes you need both but I don't run the front. I would say most owners do not either. I have not had any problems with no front plate yet.......but I also do not drive my car every day either.

Thank you.. I guess I'll need to get one of those SOS

Make sure its the right one.....the one they had before only fit the pre 02's. I think they might have one for the 2002-2005's. Make sure you check or ask.

I received a fix-it ticket from CHP in Los Angeles for no front plate and a clear cover on the rear plate of my TL. The reason law enforcement officers have become increasingly focused on license plate violations is because more and more cities are installing photo radar traps. Clear shots of the license plate and the driver's face are needed to enforce a photo radar ticket.
