Do the local police Hate on your NSX?

I got my NSX OCt 27th 2006... been pulled over 4 times since then (hadn't been pulled over in YEARS prior to that). Received two tickets out of the four stops!

Strange...I've never had any problems driving through Manhattan Beach.

I was pulled over in my NSX twice for no reason, once on Mulholland Highway (somewhere between Malibu and Topanga Canyon) and once on Lincoln (between Venice and Santa Monica). I successfully fought an unreasonable speeding ticket received when coming off the 405 at Sepulveda in Torrance. Fortunately, that's all I've had to deal with my NSX (which I've owned since March, 2000).

Knock on wood -

I've only been pulled over once since acquiring the NSX two years ago. Admittedly, I was exceeding the speed limit on a wide open, four lane road at about 8AM on a Sunday morning. Speed limit is 50 and I was going 60 and I accelerated to 60 very quickly.

I was in Irvine, CA (notoriously hard assed cops) so I thought my goose was cooked.

The officer was extremely pleasant, questioned me about the car and simply suggested that I take it easy. He reminded me that it's probably very easy to speed in a car like mine and suggested that it would be prudent to be extra careful.

I was pleasantly shocked.

By the by - I was never pulled over in either of my old S2K's either. In fact, the only ticket I've received in the last 10 years was for going 72mph in the carpool lane on the 405N in Carson (near the mall and goodyear blimp). It was 2pm on a Sat. afternoon and traffic was flying. The CHP was an absolute ass wipe and admitted that other folks were going faster than me and that 72 in that part of the freeway on a day like that (good conditions, light traffic, etc) was comparatively slow but he ticketed me anyway.

I think he was having a bad day and decided to take it out on me.

From my experience it is all about where you live. I live in Dallas and have been pulled over 2 times in the past year for legitimate reasons and the police officers were always very polite and professional. However, I have family in Oklahoma City...

I drove the NSX up there for Thanksgiving and got pulled over 5 times in under 30 minutes on my way to my mothers house. I actually got pulled over as I was exiting the shoulder from just being pulled over because it looked like I was accelerating too fast. The first cop saw me and did a U-turn to let them know it was ok. I didn't get any tickets but I can see how it would be very frustrating to live in an area where the police pull people in nice sports cars over constantly for "looking fast." Its very difficult when you are accused of driving fast when you know your V1 never went off :) Or in my case was going off the whole time so you drive exactly at the speed limit!

I was a cop for 25 years and "we" just did not hassle nice cars unless they were asking for some attention. There are too many jerks riding around to talk to.

In my NSX, (had it for going on 3 years) I have never been stopped and we get a lot of cops crusing in our town. I have no front plate and a CT muffler. I drive it respectfully and do not run it up to 6K RPM in town in 1st gear to draw attention.

In all my years I can recall only one or two times partners of mine mentioning they stopped a nice car just to stop it. Cops just do not have the time and even more, always need to be concerned they have a real reason to stop someone so as to not generate a personnel complaint.

As for just impounding a car for fun....I have to call BS on that. There is far more to that story than we have been told. The legal consequences for the department and officer are to severe.

So, guys and gals, be honest and when you are driving a little agressively, making the pipes sing, and get stopped, just recognize that you asked for it and accept responsibility. Most cops are just doing their job. Safe driving.

Despite my earlier story about the CHP officer that was clearly having a bad day, I absolutely agree with you. But... the old adage about one bad apple is very true and unfortunately, all police officers suffer when a few cops are crooked, racist or just plain a-holes. Perception is, after all, just about everything and that's the sad reality.

Oh man , dont even get me started with Oklahoma! On my way to Arkansas, I get pulled over, I think I might have been doing 5 over. On the way back to CA , I get pulled over as soon as I cross the state line in to OK. The officer supposedly thought he saw me without my seatbelt on. He was still chewing his food as he was talking to me. He was looking around trying to find something on me (car is stock except for some rims), saw my DoD decal, and let me go. I think they just see an out of state plate and immediately pull you over.

Oh yeah, couple nights ago I was pulled over by CHP for no front plate and tinted windows. Officer let me go with a warning, since I let her know I was coming from the police academy. I took the tint off and put my front plate on without the bracket though. I drilled some holes on the plate and screwed it on to the bracket mounting holes and bent the plate slightly down to show it. looks good actually. So now I can drive to the academy legally, and without being worried about getting my ass chewed.

Ok... I know what I did wrong... had no registration that was current... I understand it was 6 months overdue but I had the car sitting for a while since I got my new toy.... The license plate was covered with my Business lic. plate for advertising... The fact is that I was not doing anything for the officer to pull me over when I was behind a camary going 5 mPH under the speed limit.. There were 4 cars total around me.... The discovery of the registration came after the fact that he chose to profile me... as whatever he thought i was... Either way... It's just Luck... If you have bad luck that day you are going to be messed with nomatter what...I guess... If you attract others you are going to attract cops even more... but lets not waste so much time with petty things that even the officers partner was talking to me about...... Either way... watch your back....:frown:

Sorry to hear about your bad luck bro......remember to keep all your papers in check so the popo's can't say anything.

Cops can pull cars over (in my province anyway) solely to check documentation. Looks like it paid off in this case.

I've been pulled over 3 times in the NSX. Once for speeding (69 km/h in a 50 zone, 120 bucks and 3 demerits), once at night coming home from work at 4:30 am for no real reason and once for "stunting"; Obviously going WOT to 8,000 RPM in an underground parking lot isn't the best idea anymore... no ticket there since I had about 20 friends taking pictures and videos (car meet) of the incident. It did sound nice though... :D

So far I have had very good experiences with Irvine PD, Garden Grove PD, Fountain VAlley PD, and CHP. I should have gotten tickets but with their understanding, and their professionalism..........I got warnings instead. As such, I am still donating a few bucks here and there every year to their association for whatever....even for the picnics :D

To Rancho Santa Magarita.....I hate that place!!! I despite that stupid place!!! May you receive a good bankruptcy and lay off your police forces shortly. Oh.......I got one citation on my way in to look at a house, and got another one on my way out.....one for 5mph over and the other..... lane change without signaling where the street is empty.

I was thinking of applying to Irvine PD. I'm not sure if they're hiring at the moment, but their starting salary is around $7500 a month.

I think lateral move would be better for Irvine PD and Newport Beach PD...after a couple of years where you are at. However, check them out......

Had no idea cops started at 90k /year?

I've never been pulled over in the 7 months that I have owned the car. I guess I have been lucky. I don't run a front plate or have tinted windows.
Just be aware of whats around you...

I've been pulled over twice, one deserved for speeding, however the secong one was just to harrass me. The reason I can be sure of this is because the first thing the officer asked me was "Is this your car?" Ummm, Don't they usually ask things like "Do you know why I pulled you over?" or "License and Registration please." He took my information, walked around the car, ran my plates, came back to the car and said have a nice day. Aside from that, I think most cops try not to look in my direction; kind of like they are reluctant to give someone props by looking.

Even though I see them looking at the nsx out of the corner of my eye.

Please.......

There's a huge chasm in starting salaries for police officers depending on where you work. And a lot of cops (and firemen) make a ton of salary in overtime compared to base salary.

Imagine this... the starting wage for a freshly minted officer in the NYPD (which I believe still requires a college degree) is less than $30,000. Imagine trying to live on that in NYC.

But that same cop can move out to the suburbs and make $60k fresh out of the academy. Not to mention their ridiculous pension benefits that causes our property taxes to increase year after year.
