Do '02 models pull harder than all prior models?

An '02 owner recently posted that his '02 sample is faster and pulls harder than the '01 model he test drove.

I wonder if this was an isolated situation (i.e. bad '01 sample), or if indeed '02 models are faster than the '97~'01 samples.

Perhaps current '02 owners with prior 3.2L NSX experiences could share their observations...

AFAIK, the engine-specs for the '02 are the same as for the previous years. The car itself also isn't any lighter than before so it might be just the 'feeling' of the car.
Without any accurate data on how fast the '02 is it's hard to say.
Nevertheless, I would like to see a corrected dyno on a standard '02. Even the new NSX-R is stated to have only 280HP but the general consensus on that car is that it is actually more powerful than the specs suggest because of the 280HP rule in Japan.

Maybe they switched to that Placebo Exhaust and Placebo Headers.

The '02 should accelerate at the same rate as the '01 until you get up into triple digits where the improved aerodynamics will give you a slight edge.

As basically hand built engines - I would not be surprised if there was significant variability between 1 car and the next.

In a lot of the earlier model "dyno day" results - I was always shocked to see to completely stock cars from the same year, on the same day, on the same dyno, with similar miles report 10% or more differences in HP/Torque.

Just a theory / YMMV.

I don't think what you is stated is theory as much as it can be fact often times. I can't speak to the aspects of NSX engine assembly as far as tolerances allowed at the factory, but for other purpose built engines its not uncommon. While seat of the pants feel doesn't prove anything it certainly is possible.

In those "dyno day" results, most of the identical cars were remarkably close to each other, within a few hp. There was one outlier (only one) which was significantly lower than the others.

I've driven an 02 and to my accelerometer(vestibular apparatus) there is no difference to the 97 and 99 6-speeds I've driven, fwiw.
