Returning from a trip to Tampa, my girlfriend and I just got onto the highway. I was in the left (fast) lane going about 80mph but the speed limit 70mph. I noticed some HID lights coming up fast from behind me. Out of courtesy I moved to the right lane. He then zoomed up next to me and slowed down a bit. It turned out to be a new red Benz, dropped, with those 20inch chrome rims. He then zoomed forward and cut in front of me. Of course thats when we hit an area of gravel in the road. He shot bullets of rocks all over my car. When I saw him cut over in front of me, I quickly went into the left lane. A futile move considering he was going about 110+mph. He had one of those sport convertible Mercedez Benz. I think it was an SL500 or whatever its called. The damage consisted of a huge rock gash dead center on my hood, and other chips on my hood, several chips on my right fender, MANY chips on my wings west chin spoiler, and of course a nice crack on my windshield. He then disappeared into the darkness. Now that the damage has been done is there anything I can do about this. Please don't just say "touch up paint" because the damage isn't a simple rock chip. The paint actually seems rinkled as a result of the rock damage in some areas. In other areas the damage seems really deep. Aside from wanting to hunt this guy down. What other steps can I take to remedy this.

I guess the only thing you can do is claim it under insurance and have it repainted. To bad you didn't get his license plate number. When I was driving my suburban on a small 2 lane highway a overloaded dump truck passed me and gravel was flying out of it so it sprayed my front end. So I got the company name and number off of the door and called them. Then I took it to my insurance company and they paid to have it fixed.

Dont know if that helps any. But it sounds like you will have to get the front/damage areas repainted.

Hey Blade,
Sorry to hear that .....if I were you ....I would pull him over (if you can) and beat the crap out of him.
jack
PS: good thing is that you are not hurt or didn't get into any accidents

Kevin,
Sorry to hear about your encounter. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that car. I hope you know most of us from the bay area try to treat others with a little more respect. Next time you're over this way you should give me a call so we can hook up for a drive! Give Uncle Vinny a call and he'll get your car looking good again.

That Hurts!!!

I had a similar incident, only with out the other guy. While driving out to Palm Springs for a weekend get away along a stretch of Hwy 111, in an area called White Water. (some of you will know exactly what I'm talking about). I ran through a sand storm that completely blasted everything forward of the door jambs. Mirrors, Windscreen, fenders, hood, etc. This was in October when our "Santa Ana Winds" are blowing like mad from the East.

When I met with an adjuster from my Ins. Co. they had no problem with having the car repainted from the front doors forward and replacing the windshield and air dam with OEM parts. The car had about 90k miles on it when it was sand blasted and I admitted to the adjuster that the car did have some prior road pitting but they still took care of the entire job without deducting for prior damage or wear and tear.(the new damage was obvious and extensive)

Now the shop that did the work messed it all up and I'm about to take the car to another shop to have it fixed. The Insurance Co. is even stepping in to help me with the first body shop and is recommending another to fix the car!!

My Insurance Co. acted in good faith, as did I by being up front with them about the prior pitting.

Thanx guys,

Scott I really appreciate the offer. You are so kind it is almost unreal. Actually my girlfriend and I are planning on going to Bush Gardens. I still have your number so I will give you a call when we are up there.
Todd your right. I have the worst luck; but I own an NSX. I think that makes up for it. Jack, I had my issued side arm on me and the thought had crossed my mind. But in my line of work self control is essential. I gave Uncle Vinne a call. Bad thing is, while he works on my car what am I gonna drive in the meantime?

*dreaming* (hmm I will just have to drive my other NSX)
