Disabling CEL

Can anyone tell me how to disable the CEL without having to restart the car again. Which wire to pull off?

Thanks for the reply but does it mean that my car won't have the CEL after that. Also by not putting the clock fuse back, will it do anything else to the car? Bad things what I meant.

Pull the fuse for the clock.

You really shouldn't "disable" your CEL. It lights up if there's a problem. Pulling the fuse will reset it, but if the problem persists, it will light up again.

As for what happens if you leave the clock fuse out, I not sure, but I don't think that your car will start without it. As far as I know, the CEL is reset when you pull the clock fuse because it also removes power from the ECU.

I agree, but I'm sure jin knows this. Before pulling the fuse, you should find out what the code is, by using the instructions in the Fuel section of the service manual. You should then follow the diagnostic procedure on the page shown in the manual for that code, to further diagnose the problem.

Once you have diagnosed the problem and taken steps to fix it, THEN pull the clock fuse (meaning, pull it out for a few seconds, then put it back in). You will then need to re-set your clock and your radio station presets.

So if I don't put back the clock fuse the car won't start? I think I will need to get new O2 sensors anyway but everytime I went WOT the CEL light is on and the car will go into limp mode. This sometimes is so troublesome when I want to overtake cars.

So you did already read out the code that showed you that the sensors are the problem? Otherwise it may go to limp mode for a reason - hopefuly nothing serious.

BTW: I was not joking with my previous post about the radio programs.

Its the O2 sensors. I am not really worried about the radio programmes. But will the car starts without the clock fuse?

Okay I've tested the car yesterday. The car will start without the clock fuse but the CEL light will still lights up after a while. So I confirm that without the clock fuse the CEL will still lights up. Prolly going to order the O2 sensors now. :frown:

have u disconnected the battery ??
what caused the CEL light ? I had the CEL light along with another NSX driver after extractor install and we disconnected the battery so to reset the ECU and no probs since.

To reset the system wouldn't it be easier to just pull out the clock fuse rather than disconnecting the battery? The CEL is caused by dirty throttle body plus failed O2 sensors. BTW the fumes from the exhaust is rich with fuel.

when the NSX is shipped to the dealer the clock fuse is out and installed at the dealer during the PDI. Once you replace the faulty sensor(s) pull the fuse to clear your code.

Yes. There is no need to disconnect the battery.

Yes you can start the car without the clock fuse. But if you have any problem with the car before that would bring up the CEL, then even without the clock fuse the CEL will still lights up.

Henry.

o okies..
I was reading the thread in the understanding that taking the clock fuse just disables the "CEL light" and not resetting the ECU.
I installed headers which caused the CEL light.
