Disable passenger airbag switch/disable instructions?

Hi everyone,

Now that my kids are getting older, I'm looking for direction/instructions on how to install a switch to disable the passenger airbag. In the process of completing the NHSTA form, but a call to my local dealer stated they will not do this (for liability reasons). I'm somewhat handy and don't mind doing this myself. I would consider unplugging the airbag also and putting a resistor on it, but would need more details also to avoid any dash lights or effects on the driver airbag.

I've searched prime but couldn't find any specific instructions on how to do either. Any information is appreciated.

thx,
Bill

I too would like to do this. I thought that the later years had such a switch. I don't mind a dash light (since that would remind me to turn it back on) but I'd rather avoid taking m glovebox out each time the kids ride, to get to the connector. I'm wondering if I can use the extra terminals on the valet trunk switch.

I haven't made any ground, but that's actually a good thought - just wiring a toggle switch to the power on the passenger airbag and letting the SRS light stay on when disabled. With the SRS light on, it will disable the driver's airbag too (from what I read), which isn't a huge deal if my kids are not at risk.

My only reservation is splicing wires to the SRS system without full clarity on the gotcha's (accidentally setting off the airbags, etc).
