Dim Sum Morning 7/31

Restaurant ratings

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the issue of kitchen ratings. TV undercover report showed one restaurant failing their inspection on one day because one of the employees forgot to wash his hand. A week later, they got an "A" rating simply because they were prepared to be on their best behavior on that day. Ratings based on one day inspection is not at all a reliable measure. I think NBC Seafood is similar to all Chinese restaurants in Monterey Park. Available parking is a more important issue. Just my thoughts.

Parking at NBC

I think there will be lots of parking space at 8AM, I really do not know anyone that goes that early, the earlist I had been to one of these place is 10:30am to avoid the line for lunch, but never for breakfast.

As long as they consistently rate an "A" or "B" then they should be OK. If they hit an occassional "C" then look for another place to eat .

I really do not know if NBC Seafood had an issue before, but I'm open for other suggestions. Also, I do not know any twisties in the surrounding cities are Monterey Park

Where do you think we can go after Dim Sum for some twisties??

Wowieeeeee. This is awesome!!! more people participating more than I thought. I hope they won't run out of dim sum:D hahaaha...we can settle with NBC Seafoods in Monterey Park. However, the question would be...where can we go for the twisties? Hope on the 10 to 405 to 101 or valentine one in the front and one in the back for look out...and cruise the PCH. You can vote on this. I am up for anything.

The post "DimSum Drive" shold be discussed offline - IYKWIM!!!

Damn...I'm going to be busy that weekend (relatives are visiting from way out of town).

I love dim sum...but I usually go to Ocean Star when I'm in Monterey Park. I mostly go to Empress Pavilion in Chinatown.

Unfortunately I usually have to work on Saturdays so I won't be able to make it but may I suggest maybe hit the Angeles Crest Highway off the 210 for the twisties. It's a bit far from NBC but maybe the closest road for spirited driving from the restaurant. I had my wedding reception at NBC and if you don't get there before 10:30 parking is a problem. There are a lot of great places for dim sum in the San Gabriel Valley, having grown up in Monterey Park. My wife, though, knows all the names of them. In Mar Plaza, at the corner of Atlantic and Garvey, there is Empress Pavilion and another big restaurant , I forget the name but it's on the second floor, that serves great Dim Sum. I think NBC has gone down in quality and service since I was there last. Have a great outing:) !

Restaurant choices

I agree that NBC is not the best for dim sum. The best restaurants for dim sum in Monterey Park/Alhambra IMO are Empress Pavilion on Atlantic/Garvey and North Sea, a block north. However, parking is very tight at both places. An even better place for dim sum is Sea Harbor in Walnut/Rowland Heights, on Nogales and Gale. This place is so good that on weekends, wait time is at least 1-2 hours at around noon. They do take reservation for large groups, but only before 11am. I don't know how early they open. If we go early, parking should be ok.

I think for the first NSX dim sum gathering, NBC is good enough. Parking is a more important consideration. We can always try out these other restaurants next time.

I'll be there

Hi PoohBEAR,
I'll be there, but I have to be back in Irvine by 12pm!? Is it doable? This will be my 2nd event with NSXers. Looking forward to it.

Re: I'll be there

I am sure that we will be done prior to noon time. This is only a breakfast gathering...and quite a few of us OC are going. We need to figure out our meeting point to cruise down together.

James, can you email or PM or post the direction to the restaurant? do we need to set reservation at head of time?

NBC Information

Hi Guys,

Here are NBC's infromation

404-A S. Atlantic Blvd.
Monterey Park, CA 91754
626-282-2323

They are open 8AM every day, so we need to decide exactly when we want to get there.

They do not take reservation for Sat. morning dim sum (just called), but if we get there before 9AM, I think we are fine.

I think I'm driving my Accord . . .

Reservation for parking?

Dim sum parking a problem at 8:30am?! Hard to imagine unless there is physically not enough spaces in the parking lot. Dim sum is really Cantonese lunch. No one that I know of goes to dim sum that early.

Parking

I agree, I do not think there will be a parking issue. Even with 20 NSXs, there are plenty of spaces for us at 8:30AM.

I won't say that about 10:30AM, but 8:30AM. No problem, none ot the other shops/store there are open yet.

There are about 25+ spaces right in front of the front door. To the left where the main parking area is, I think there must be at least 110+ spaces.

Do not worry, I think we can take up a whole section there.

Re: Parking

James,
Is there any way we can call and secure a chung of that parking spots for an hour or so?

NBC

I had called, but they do not provide that service. let's put it this way, they do not even take reservation on Sat. let a long take care of the parking problem they have every weekend starting around 10:30AM.

Sorry Calvin, but from what I understand, most Chinese rest. do not provide parking services. (Not even for weddings. You have to hire your own valet attandent to do the job).

Maybe someone live closer can check or if you know someone in upper management.
