Diesel V6 Truck.. Why can't companies build one for the U.S.?

I currently own a Tacoma V6 2010 Double Cab and although it's great, I would like to see an increase in my mpg. (4x2)

I imagine if my current v6 gets around 17 local / 21 hwy, imagine what the mpg would be like if it were a diesel! Better mpg and torque, sounds like a win win.

I know the toyota hilux overseas is available in diesel but why is it so friggin hard to find a v6 in the U.S. with a diesel option? There are plenty of Ford/Dodge/Chevy models that are diesel but in a v8 model, but i'm not looking for power.. Just amazing mpg with the ability to put some stuff in the back for minor towing.

Anybody care to chime in?

VW Touareg has a V6 TDI that is fuel efficient... but the Dodge Cummins Diesel is an I6 TDI, a 6.7L one, but still a six cylinder.

I agree!! I want a midsize truck or a F150/Silverado equivalent with a small diesel. No such option available. Instead you can get a either an inefficient big V8 or a step up to a 1/2 ton P'up with a big diesel. I just want something that averages over 20 MPG empty and over 17 loaded.

The only option is the VW Touraeg.. which I am leaning towards.

There's one reason why we don't see a lot more diesel vehicles here. Our current petrol infrastructure in the US is set up with diesel being the minority player.

Keep your Tacoma. These guys will fit a small diesel into it.
my brother in law had just about gone this route, until he imported a turbo diesel Toyota land cruiser from Japan. Killer drive train ing the Land cruiser!

Looks neat and it looks like they do top notch work - but wow, you can buy an awful lot of gasoline for $22K. At that point you might as well sell your truck and buy something else.

at $4.00/ g ---80 fill ups. ;-)

Well, not really. I was more thinking along the lines of the price difference between gas and diesel in order to calculate a break-even point.

Say, he kept the truck for 100K miles and continued to use gas at 19 MPG at $4 per gallon average

Or paid $22,000 and used diesel fuel for 100K miles and got 25 MPG at $4.50 per gallon average

The break-even point would be a LOT more than 80 fill ups.
