If we can make a basic assumption that you can have an alert for each of the 6 parameters this unit tracks, then I would want an alert for all 6 but it's important to have the monitoring of these alerts active in the background for the other 4 you're not looking at.What specific parameter alerts do you want?
Kuni laid it out nicely.
In my example above let's say i'm monitoring 3 parameters/sensors to make it simple. 1. Boost 2. AFR 3. Oil Temp
Boost and AFR are probably something i'd like to keep track off actively and i'll pick those to be visible on the DGauge. I'm still concerned about high oil temps of course. I would LOVE for a warning warning beep when say my oil temps hit 225 degs. For example, if an alert is triggered the LCD can switch to the color RED, an audible piezo can be triggered and the Boost readout can be replaced with my oil temp. Heck, I can provide the piezo if the unit can provide an external trigger.
What would be really slick is to have a two stage alert system where if I hit 215 degs it would be pulse warning at some unoffensive piezo tone and when it hits 235 it would be a solid warning high pitched tone. Ok, fine... I might be asking for too much but hopefully this feedback is useful for you.
For the average HPDE person there isn't really a nice digital solution. The best out there is either the HKS CAMP2 or PLX solutions and a few other smartphone OBD2 apps. Yours has the potential to be better than all and be much more simple in which it's programmable for alerts and different display options.
Now from a mounting perspective... it would also be cool to be able to daisy chain more than one unit together like PLX does. One can be a master controller and the others are just slaves.
I would take it apart like you did here and flush mount it to my center console. I'd want 4 of these on display full time or maybe just build one with an LCD wide enough to fit 4 parameters.
