last week i got my car fixed at the dealer for 2 small oil leaks and had to get an alignment

needed new valve cover gasket and

4 new cam plugs

and alignment

when I left the building it i had 792 miles on the trip meter

when I got it back it was 824 miles

while he was on the phone, he was like can i help you?
i asked the guy, and he said they had to get the oil flowing?
and he went back on the phone
I was like sure and left (i didn't want to make a big scene)

question now is
before I call back, should I

a. complain, and ask if it was necessary to test drive my car for 32 miles

b. just dont complain

also i still have a small oil leak so i need ot call back and let them fix it..

comments please..

thanks fellow nsxers

Greg

I would be a little suspicious as to WHO drove it...I make sure when i take my car in that no one except the guy I trust to work on my car drives it. In fact, i found out that someone else had driven it and i complained about that. 32 miles isn't really alot overall, but to "get the oil flowing" its absolutely ridiculous! starting it should "get the oil flowing".

Get all your facts together first, then I would complain.
Speak to the manager, face-to-face preferably, because you'll never get anywhere with the help. Then you'll only get the answers you've already received: "get the oil flowing"

Give me a break. He's obviously covering up, probably his own ass. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the guilty party.

Just speak to whom is in charge, but always be respectful. Its evident that the person you spoke with in not very customer savy. In the end you will command more respect from his superiors and be more credible as a customer that only wants things done right, not anything more than what is normally expected.

As a business owner I let the people know that work for me that the sun shines on everyones home the same way it does yours.
Being the owner of a fancy car, home or other objects makes you nothing special in my book b/c at the end of the day all a man has is his work and his word. So do what is right and treat folks fairly and you will gain their respect and they should treat you in the same manner....nothing more & nothing less!

Good luck.

I agree with Joel and Tom. Just make the appointment to have the remaining leak fixed. While you are there having it fixed - while you wait, because you don't want to leave it there unless this is straightened out - ask to speak to the service manager, and discuss it respectfully and politely with him. While 32 miles is not HUGE, there should not be any reason for anyone to drive the car that far.

i called today
and i found out
the service manager that helped me left recently to work for BMW!?!

ok nowwhat do you think I could get out of it if i complained about the 32 miles?

thanks

forum nazi

isn't this a different situation

but similar issue?

I agree. 32 miles is not huge. But you need to let them know it is not acceptable.

Take it back, wait there while the work gets done, and talk to a BOSS to see if they can make you happy.

Either way let us know who the dealer is.

sigh.. i can't call in for a reappointment, due to bad weather ALL next week..

went to general manager today, he said he was going to get to the bottom of it and give me a call back

it so happens that this happened to my lawyer (who i bought the nsx from) and he was furious about it..

So...the same dealer did this TWICE to the SAME CAR?? You would think they would learn.

1st off I think you should've stayed and wait 'til the manager got off the phone rather than calling them back a few days later. If things get ugly, which I'm sure it won't, they can hold this against you in the future.

Make sure you ask them whether they have security cameras in the service area. My dealer did not and after my unfortunate incident with them I demanded that they install some. Ask and see if they would enact certain measures that would prevent this from ever happening again.

Also, you should talk to the Mechanic who actually worked on the car as well. The service manager won't know as much as the mechanic anyway.

Hope everything gets resolved.

it sounds to me like all ur interested in is "getting something" out of this? What do you want? The 32 miles is not something that you will be "greatly" compensated for...i mean, its not that much at all, BUT it is more than should be required to get the oil flowing. At most, you'll get an apology, maybe a free oil change, and more respect next time, but don't expect them to give you too much more!

how do i know, who knows if they burnt my clutch, teared up the synchros, etc.

why did they drive my car for 32 miles?

now i found out that the general manger left it up to the main service director

the service director says that

i live with these guys, they wouldn't do such a thing

guys the nsx get 18/24 miles per a gallon (car was driven 32 miles)

when i left the car there it was left with a HALF of tank

half tank is holds more then 2 gallons

when i got it back it was almost EMPTY

so wouldn't they have to be dawging my car to do this?

That's the question for the management at the dealership.

Tell him what the odometer reading was when you dropped the car off, and when you picked it up, and ask him why it would change if "they wouldn't do such a thing".

Uh... that just doesn't make sense.

Even when I'm flogging the car on the track, it gets 9 to 11 miles to the gallon. The gas tank holds 18.5 gallons, and the gauge is reasonably accurate in that regard. It's physically impossible to show half a tank of gas used in 32 miles (unless you have a leak in the fuel lines or something really uncommon like that).

You may want to get your story straight and figure out what happened, because you just presented two different facts (half a tank of gas used, and 32 miles driven) that contradict each other.

If you do nothing, you get nothing. It's not about the 32 miles, its about misuse of someone else's personal property. It's about trust.

I think Gokwi is more interested in finding out what exactly happened during those 32 miles than compensation.

This definetly proves otherwise RyRy:

ok nowwhat do you think I could get out of it if i complained about the 32 miles?

Complaining shouldn't even be considered, it should be DONE right away!! It should be an involuntary reaction. This procrastination and asking questions like the above make me think that you want something drastic from this.

And the 1/2 a tank, 32 miles is bogus...which is it? and i highly doubt a mechanic would "dawg" a car bad enough that it would hurt the car now, or in the future because they know they'd be responsible.

Maybe the guy who drove it will be a schmuck and post about it here like the guy with the 03 cobra that posted on SVT's forum!! What did that lady end up getting anyways? Wasnt it like 100 miles and he was braggin about going 125+ mph??

we worked everything out, and came to an agreement..

i meant that there was a half of tank left

and it was driven 32 miles

when I got back, the tank was almost empty

so how can a half tank of gas go to empty with 32 miles?

by the way, this should be a lesson...make sure you KNOW you're mechanic!!

I trust my mechanic very much with my car. I've made sure he is the ONLY person to touch my car. I'm actually very angry because I found out someone else drove my car to park it in the back and when it got to the body shop, i had some new curb rash. The dealer is taking care of the curb rash.

By the way, anyone in South Florida, my mechanic is Neil Miller...GREAT guy who really knows these cars!

It can't. Unless you're willing to consider really unlikely scenarios, like running it in neutral (for hours?) or siphoning...

Gowki,

What was the outcome??? What did you get? What was their explanation?

Give us the info, brotha.

they said they had to drive it that long to lift the cams

they had to drive it that many miles to make sure everything is working right

they found out 2 more oil leaks (which were vtec solenoid gasket ,just a filter, and oil pan gasket) and they wanted to split the cost with me

and thats about it..
