custom made an air intake system *PIC*

I've switched the HKS mushroom filter to the OEM one. Its not just hot air that I fear but the amount of dust going into my engine. In comparison my engine response is better now when driving under the hot sun.

there was actually 1 hose connected to stock intake, which i routed on to the new pipe(the pipe had a nipple and it came with a hose)

I have a couple of CF pipes sitting in the garage with the nipple for vaccum hose.. Interesting. maybe if I'm bored one day I'll do a intake.

How is it mounted so it doesnt move around?

Today I removed the baffler behind the side grill. Took the Driver side rear wheel off, removed only half of the liner and removed about 3 screws on the plastic baffler. There are 2 pieces actually that come apart. It seems worthless, but there is a scoop-like shape to allow more air to get up into the intake. You can actually see the stock air filter from the wheel well! Mine was dirty, but I didn't have a filter to replace it yet. I have a Cone on order to replace the stock box. The vents can facilitate air right up to the box if you attach a hose to the backside of the grill up to the intake mount for the airbox or Cone Filter. I plan on doing this mod! What I will do is put holes in the bottom portion of the hose to allow for water to drain during rain/water etc. There is no way water will travel upwards from the grill up to the box or cone filter. There is about 8 inch height difference. I guess I'll have to test it just to be safe.

So I started her up after the baffler removal and yup you can hear a difference even with the stock box! Nice too!

I do think that to connect a hose or tube to the grill up to the inlet/engine bay will help greatly with cooler air or ram air to the filter. I like! Oh by the way I used WD-40 liberally on all the screws and connections, the 2 piece baffler slipped right off. If anyone want to see photos of what the job looked like send me an email to "[email protected]"

Hey Legend, I tried the set up you posted. I would post pics but they are too large. Anyone wanting to see photos of the setup, email me [email protected]

Would also like some info on air temp around a mid engined car V.S air temp
around on a typical front engined car. In case you couldn't tell, I am new to these cars, & looking for an education.

I don't know about other cars, but here are the logged IAT's from my car on the same day with almost identical
ambient temps (taken about 1 hour apart @ ~68 degrees F., ambient).

Cone filter mounted on short alum pipe in engine compartment:

Same cone filter, mounted in fender:

Those were taken during 3rd gear freeway tests, not on a dyno. based on my experience with the car, i don't
think air circulation is very good in the engine compartment and have made my own mods to help get the air
in/out of the area. (these logs were taken before any air circulation mods)

Wow, most impressive. What are you using to datalog the temperatures ?
Is it some sort of EMS like the AEM engine management units ?

Good reference data Mike, thanks.

Cheers,
