I did something I'm not too proud of in the name of caffeine: I cut down a portion of my e-brake to accommidate a cup holder. Sounds blasphemous. Sounds outlandish. But I did it and I'd probably do it again.
Here's how it went down: I obtained a clamp-on motorcycle cup holder, one for a 1" pipe. I retracted the e-brake vinyl. I cut out a cylinder of the e-brake rubber molding, down to the underlying metal tube and then pulled the vinyl back over the damage. With application of the clamp the vinyl crimped and pulled north; exposing the base of the e-brake. Not good. So I cut the vinyl circumfernetially at the point where the clamp would be placed. So there's about 1.5 inches of normal-looking e-brake at the tip, the clamp for the cup holder, then the remaining normal-looking e-brake.
It works like a charm. The look took a bit getting used to. I'll post some pictures after I get home in case anyone wishes to view the damage.
Oh, and a replacement e-brake runs about $300...I may need one in a couple of years.
