He had it coming. Like she said at the end, it's not the 1st time this has happened, they just can't catch up to them. Putting everyone in danger should cost him that job.

when they said it was a Miami Cop
I thought dont they do that all the time when they are off duty going to their kids soccer game

but thats Miami for ya

There is nothing more evil than a cop who breaks the law.
Be it beating someone, shooting them in the head with a 40mm gas canister, or sacrificing public saftey to make class on time.

All punishment for cops should be 2x the normal punishment.

Forget all the that. how can he just get off with a minor fine. Netviper and our crew were 8-12 over and a tropper gave me (driving) a $250 ticket and was a huge asshole for no reason.

so it's on tape...still no major outcry for the behavior or outcome...a minor fine is what pissed me off after a 4 minute "chase" over 120mph....wtf..

Agree 100%. In Virginia, I think it's 1 day in jail for every mph over 100.
So he should do 20 days, but IMO since it's a cop breaking the law, double it. 40 days in jail. A slap on the wrist is an insult to the idea cops are here to protect us.

Wanna be even more pissed off. She was chasing him for 40 minutes.

There was an incident in S Cal about ten years ago when CHP (California Hwy Patrol) gave a cop a ticket, and afterwards, the cop waited for the CHP and gave him a ticket few days later. It became a wars between two departments and the police chief had to put a stop to it.

It was pretty funny. Total tickets given out was some where around 30 tickets between 20 or cops/CHPs.

Not quite doc! He can be seen at 6:28:15 AM passing the officer, and he pulls over at 6:35:28 AM. Just a little over seven minutes.

Sorry, but the local paper here in S. Florida states that it is 45 minute video in total.

likely a press error and/or different case...

Sorry, but the local paper here in S. Florida states that it is 45 minute video in total.

[CNN] "In a pursuit videotaped on the trooper's in-car camera, Lopez led Florida highway patrol officer D.J. Watts on a seven-minute, almost 12-mile chase in pre-dawn darkness on Tuesday, October 11, the report said."

... and:

[Miami Herald] "The dash cam video from her patrol car shows Watts following Lopez for five minutes, with his patrol car generally too far ahead to be seen on camera. As she finally nears him, she turns on her siren and lights for two minutes before he pulls over.

Watts wrote that after she hit her siren, “the driver ignored my lights and siren and again accelerated, changing lanes to the outside lane, back into the center lane, back across to the outside lane and then back to the inside lane. He slowed to 78 mph, but then accelerated again, continuing to change lanes in and out of traffic.”

On the 45-minute video, Lopez is seen eventually pulling over against the concrete highway median and stopping. "

The "chase" was ~12miles over ~7minutes, but the "arrest" (read: DETAINMENT) was ~45minutes.

The 2nd link above (a lengthy but must-read, truly & unequivocally makes me sick-to-my-stomach! :(

Even when the cop pulled over, he stopped on the wrong side of the road. One should always pull over to the right side of the highway. She had all the reasons to be completely pissed off.

It says he was charged with a "misdemeanor," not a "minor fine." Depending on the outcome of the trial, he could face jail time. He's also going to lose his job, and will be ineligible for any public safety career in the future. Based on his age (35), he was probably mid-career; now he has to start all over, working his way up from the bottom.

The guy's whole world will be turned upside down after this. A "minor fine" is hardly the least of his problems.

Anyway, just like any other person, he's entitled to a fair trial. The jury can decide his guilt, and the judge can decide his ultimate fate.
