Conquering The Wall (Eau Rouge Spa)

Gerard, I loved the rear window camera mount! Your car looked strong in the beginning, but then towards the end, it sounded like you were feathering the throttle a lot (rear tires going?) and then the ITR's flew by. Was there something wrong with the car? Nice drift on the last corner of the last lap by the way!

Good notice. After three laps my rear tires lost grip. Just before the race I lowered tire pressure a bit because air and track temp was a bit low and it had rained a little. That was a wrong decission. Temperature went up and it stayed dry. So the heat in my tires went sky hi. I drifted almost through every corner. The car was in perfect balance. The race NSX that won is a real race prepared NSX. I could keep up with him for the first 4 laps. After that I let the two Integras pass me. The NSX and the 2 Integras came out in the Prototype Division. So they competed in another competion. I competed in the Modified Division. In this division you can tune your car as long it is still street legal. The Protos are real race cars.

Don't take these trophy classes and rules too serious: I would have also had started in the Prototype class although I have a stock engine and it's no real race car whereas Gerards car is in "modified" with a supercharged engine.

It's decided by the word "street legal" which means your car would already fall in the proto class when you use a rear spoiler without 3rd brake light. OTOH there are some cars with licence plates that have to undergo serious changes every time before they have to pass the legal technical tests in their countries (especialy Switzerland) ;-)

TBell: What the hell happenend there (two cars in opposite direction on a track)?

Hi Wolfgang,
I agree. My NSX wouldn't be "street legal" if it was registered in Zwitzerland. But in The Netherlands it is no point having a supercharger. My NSX is according the Dutch regulations "street legal".
The big difference between the Protos and the Modifieds is that Protos have a decease named "Anorexia Nervosa". My NSX weights about 1,300kg while the NSX of Didier Wuydts weights about 1.100kg (350hp NA). The race Integras are between 800kg and 900kg (the fastest have 230hp). Weight is the competitor you have to beat. I have a lot of horsepower (as you can see in the video), but in the corners HP can not equalize the KG. And because I want to drive my NSX also on normal streets. I have to compromize. I drive my NSX to all the tracks all by myself and not on a trailer. So it must have some comfort. (airco, radio etc..)

I heard that the 360 spyder driver was in the grass prior to the braking markers, and then pulled back on track causing a couple of vettes to do a brake check causing the silver one to go off-line, dropping drivers side rubber into a wet section of the braking area. Then the 360 spun again because of wet grass on his tires.
I would have smacked that 360 guy, if he was in my group. I was not running that day. Good thing.

Correct, but the point is: Losing weight alone doesn't make a car non street legal. I can have a licence plate in Germany with a totaly stripped NSX as long as some rules are obeyed. BTW: If your car weighs 1,300 kg without driver and mine has about 1,230 they should be both equal with driver - haha!

Not to speak of some trolls that betray the rest of the trophy people by just lying. I remember a dutch dealer (no Prime member AFAIK) some years ago that drove and won a trophy race in Spa with a turbocharged Integra in the stock class and has beaten all those poor and true stock drivers with N/A engine.

edit: TBell, thanks for the info!

You're right ofcourse. But in the Trophy you will find that only the Protos do that much as possible to loose their weight.

I know of one modified Integra that is really a genuine race car with Belgium license plates. And I know that you know which one I mean.

Now you know how to improve your lap times..

please  can u fix it ?
thx
Hi Jacko,
I am so sorry. The link was overloaded. To many Primers tried to download the file.

I recommend, that you use a download manager. Than if the link is interrupted, it will continue downloading as soon as the link is OK again.

I think you tried to download the big file. Perhaps you can try the small file first.

Good luck.

Did you manage to download the file?

The smaller one, yea, quality is not that good but ok. Thank you, amazing video. I was wondering how you could see anything in the rain, scary.

nice one Gerard - I'm in there!

downloading now
Hi Darren,
I hope it all worked out for you. I saw that you downloaded everything. Perhaps it was better to download Spa2003 file in low res first and if it was satisfactory for you, you could download the high res file. The high res takes a lot of time to download. Hope you enjoy.

Gerard

BTW you've got a nice set of toys on wheels

thanks Gerard

I am always interested in what fellow NSXers do to their cars - I have done a lot of mods myself and Kevin has told me lots about your car, so I thought it would be good to download all your pics & stuff for 'research' in case I s/c my NSX in the future

maybe we'll get to meet up soon - I'll be at the Ring over the Easter weekend March 25th to 28th.

Darren

awesome photos. You sure are lucky to have access to such a wonderful track. Spa is my favorite track on the F1 circuit.
