Ignoring price, what are the advantages & disadvantages of the Comptech CF airbox and the Cantrell AIS? From what I can tell from photos, the Cantrell replaces the OEM inlet tube, while the Comptech does away with it entirely. Looking for input on installation (esp. the Comptech), sound, propensity to ingest rainwater & any other first-hand comments.

Russ, I just had the comptech air intake installed and I really like it.I'm going in stages of sound changes you might say.I changed my exhaust and that gave my nsx a nice sound and then I put the comptech air intake on and that made the sound even nicer.I am thinking of putting the cantrell air induction product on next. From what I hear water is not a problem unless you are in heavy rain.I am in long island also,e-mail me if you ever want to meet up and compare mods. Later,John

The Cantrell Concepts intake will not work with the Comptech airbox. When I installed the CC intake on my car, the instructions stated, "Will not work with Comptech Airbox"(I don't have the comptech airbox. I only have the CC intake, so this wasn't an issue for me).
Sorry,
John

So then you didn't install it on your car.

I've had the Cantrell Concepts AIS on my car for about two weeks along with the stock airbox and K&N filter. The sound is outstanding, and it seems like the throttle response has become instantaneous. At idle, it sounds like the engine is sucking air through a huge straw.......get it over 5500 rpm and it wails in your left ear like a banshee!

I already asked this several months ago, maybe someone tried it by now: removing the stock inlet and not putting anything.

If the power gains of the CC-AIS are almost zero but you are doing it for the sound, wouldn't a no-inlet be even better (for the sound)?

*edit*
Good question? Why not doing this myself and find out? I am so tech-unabled that I have to go paying my machanic even for doing this...

Gheba,

I installed my RM cold intake myself...it was very easy to remove the stock inlet.

And you know that I am not handy at all too !

Call me if you need help !

Next time we meet, bring the tools (I do not even have those! All my tools are in the OEM toolbox!

) and we will do it!

The GCIIC - Gheba Concept Invisible Intake System (patent pending)! No grey market please...

Hi Anytime,
I need to revise those instructions. The A.I.System will work with the Comptech box. I have installed 2 or 3 personally. The customers all said they loved the combination.

The sound wouldn't be as good with no inlet because the A.I.System directs the sound out of the side duct. The A.I.S. seals around the side duct so that all air entering has to go into the airbox. For the same reason, all sound exiting the airbox has to go out of the side vent. I'm sure there are more than a few people with the A.I.S. that will attest to increased throttle response.

I just installed the Comptech standard carbon-fiber air-box cover and it sounds nice. Looks a bit smaller than the stock airbox, does anyone know if the OEM airbox (cover) is the same on a 3.0 and a 3.2?

Will, as an universal expert about air intake, would you honestly advise about the no-inlet solution against the OEM one?
(granted you clean your filter in shorter period by chosing the no.intake path)

Will, I'd like to buy your product, but I worry about water infiltration. Please ease my mind about this potential problem.

I have never had a problem with this, nor have I heard of a single instance of water infiltration. I know a few guys that have my intake on their cars drive in the rain fairly often. It would be very difficult for water to get up throught the intake and even tougher to get past the airbox. The only way this could easily happen is if the A.I.S. was completely submerged which would require the car to be submerged over the tires. I think by then you would have more things to worry about :-)

I would have to say this wouldn't be a good idea for one reason. Air would have to flow through a sharp hole in the frame. This would create a large degree of turbulance.

Will, what is the weight of the plastic fiber AIS vs. the carbon fiber AIS vs. the OEM air tube?

I'm not sure. I'll have to weigh the parts and get back to you. I know the carbon fiber is the lighter of the three. I just don't know the exact weights.
