Anyone have any thoughts about Comptech Sport Springs? I was thinking of upgrading stock. I don't really plan on taking the car to the track maybe once or twice a year. A good streetable spring is what I'm looking for. Especially as it will be my daily driver until it becomes a Garage Queen in winter:

1) Will the stock shocks be good enough to handle the higher spring rates and lowered dynamics? Should I be conserned as my car has almost 50 000 Miles or 90 000 Kilometers on it now, not to mention 12year old springs and shocks?

2) Does anyone have these springs right now? How much lower is it 1" like the Comptech site claims? Any comments?

It has always been my belief that shocks and springs should be considered as one system. A stock shock with stiffer springs will move with a higher frequency than initially designed for and therefore will wear out (more) quickly.

As far as 12 year old shocks, replace them.
As far as 12 year old springs, they can either be ok (most likely) or a little setteled, disformation of the metal. If your car looks like it has the initial ride height, they are most likely ok.

A spring is initially designed to work within it's elasicity range, whick means it can compress an infinite amount of times without changing it's initial shape. So a well designed spring should "last forever" of there was no physical wear and tear.

I replaced my old shocks and springs together. Bilstien/ C-Tech.

Like BITeR said, just replace your shocks. Unless you do it yourself it is going to cost you about $4-600 in labor just to get the new spring installed + an allignment. If you lower your car with C-Tech springs and one of your shocks blow, well you are going to have to pay for all that labor again.... and if your shocks begin to leak.... just hope that there are Bilstiens availiable for purchase (they have been hard to come by in the past). You would hate to have to buy a new OEM one.

As far as how low. Assuming that the Bilstien's top mount is where stock is supposed to be (I don't think that it is, I think it is about 1/8" lower than stock) the C-Tech springs gave me a 1.25-1.3" drop. Add to that what looks to be like a 1/8" drop from the new spring mounts on the shocks I got about 1.5" drop. Looks mean, but I do scrape a few things now.

The setup is perfectly streetable. On bumpy roads the car does ride pretty firmly, but on smooth roads, you would be hard pressed to tell that the car has an upgraded suspension at all. At speed it makes a pretty big difference.

Good Luck.

Jeff
