coil-over suspension

My 96 has the CompTech adjustable sport suspension package (http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/110115.html.) The springs are really hard, but ride nice when running on smooth roads.

What performance goals do you have for your car?If track work is not a big part then I'm not sure you need a true coil over. Some might argue height adjustability but I would counter with its a pita in every day driving.Plus you need to corner ballance and have a good working knowledge of susp to get the most benefit.A poor spring rate choice might make life miserable. There are plenty of spring/shock choices out there search around.

I won't be doing any track work with the car, but I want it to look and handle good. Why is the coil over a pain in the ass for every day use? It would be nice to be able to ajust the height, but I want a nice ride also.

Then you really need the "regular" Comptech suspension. It is adjustable Konis with a Ground control adjustable spring perch and Eibach springs. I have this on my "cruuzer" and love the setup. I did use it for track but the Eibachs are too soft for the track.

I like this setup because you can easily change height, change stiffness of the shock, and the Eibachs are actually a little softer than stock at no compression, and about twice as stiff as stock springs at full compression, so pot holes are not as noticeable as a linear (i.e. H&R, TEIN, etc) spring setup. Hope this helps.

if looks are your goal then a simple spring/shock combo is fine.Eibach lower 1 in.HR lower 1.5 in.More than just springs are involved in what most street drivers percieve as an improved sporty drive, and that would be stiffer antiroll bars. This will decrease roll during cornering and makes a big difference in feel to the average street driver.

Coil-over refers to the spring being placed over the damper. So, even our factory suspension is a coil-over design. There are products available, like the TEIN you mentioned, that is a "threaded-body" coil-over. These adjust the ride height by raising the perch position of the spring (Type-RA) or by modifying the length of the damper body (Type-RE). This quality features two benefits. The first benefit is the ride height adjustment can be set to wherever you wish on the threaded portion allowing you to customize ride height. The second benefit is four-corner independent ride height adjustability to corner balance the vehicle. You can read lots of FYI on corner balancing here:
http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Performance/cornerbalance.htm

The customizable ride height is very useful for achieving a ride height that works in conjunction with the variety of wheel offset and tire combinations that may rub at certain ride heights. The lowering of the car in the performance frame of mind also lowers the Cg improving weight transfer.

The benefits of corner-balancing is really only important if the car is tracked often. IMO, the benefits can't be exploited on the street.

Good luck!

Cheers,
-- Chris

I have held these in my hand, but not had them on the car. They are very similar except they are designed to take a "normal" or OEM spring, one that has not been formed "flat" on the bottom. You can actually use any spring with that setup, not just the Eibachs. Correct me if I am wrong, MJ.

They are made to be used with ANY OEM or oem style replacement spring (OEM, H&R, Eibach, Intrax etc.)

I don't answer many questions posted to me in the Forums since I only have time to drop by 1-2X a month and anything I might see here is random. If you need to know something technical or have a part related question drop me a private note.
