So it appears my clutch started to slip. Turn the car off leave it for a day and then drives ok then starts to slip again, maybe getting slightly worse.

The car sat for a week. Started up, drove it no slip. Ok that's weird. turn the car off start it and no slip. Next day start the car up, 3 hour drive and some hard driving and no slip. Get to the drag strip. about 6 runs and no slip.

Go to leave and it starts to slip.

Is this really weird?

Why would it appear to slip badly, then be fine on another few days with some hard driving then start to slip again after? Surely when it starts to slip it will progressively get worse? without the days of no signs of any slip.

Is this definately clutch slip? can anything else give the illusion of clutch slip? it doesn't smell. accelerate and revs pick up really quick and car barely picks up speed. Accelerate gently or lower gear and it will pick up speed easier.

I remember when I was looking for a car I spoke with Tim Bromley. He mentioned some odd behaviour related to the clutch. You might want to read this post (post #2 is Tim).

I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but something to consider.

The second post was very interesting and very similar, i was reading through to the end. They never did find a fix, just replaced it by the looks of it. Which is a assumption as it was sold to another member.

Describe what you are considering to be a slipping clutch...

When i accelerate the revs shoot up and the car barely picks up any speed.

First started in higher gears, understandably but started doing in all gears.

Could anything else cause this? maybe a faulty LSD? or slipping belt? although if it was a slipping belt surely the engine would be destroyed first time it happened. Just thinking out loud, or would it definitely be clutch related?

I just don't understand how it has bad and good days. and one of the good days was a long 2 hour drive with drag racing at the drag strip. Doesnt make no sense to me. I would have thought once it starts to slip it would progressively get worse without any good days.

It's a twin plate carbon if that helps. Possibly installed incorrectly. Who knows.

That is perplexing to me as well. The revs shooting up with no acceleration is definitely indicative of a slipping clutch but the fact that it is intermittent is odd. When was the twin carbon clutch installed? In the meantime I would avoid driving the car... Especially taking it to the track. I also suggest that it is time to bite the bullet and bring it into a reputable shop. One of those things that require (and yes I know it will be expensive) to take things apart to tell for sure... One more thing... Don't suppose any codes have been thrown recently?

A carbon clutch will slip slightly when cold. However it seems that if your noticing that much slip the discs might be too worn. Carbon discs for street aren't the longest lasting that's why I opted to go ceramic.

I would look at maybe flushing your clutch fluid. I'm thinking that your clutch slave is hanging up and not letting the clutch fully engage. Get someone to set in the car and actuate the clutch while you observe the slave action. You will have to elevate the car and pull the dust boot back from the slave plunger.
