Hello,
My 1991 nsx is having problems. I went to have the emmisions test done on it and it failed. So alot of guys have been telling me to change the air filter and add some emmisions cleaner in the gas. I did . But now the car takes 3-4 times to start it. It will turn over but then just dies. Even the tach needle goes weird... it had a lag. Then when the car dies I hear this weird " clunk" sound in or near the engine. It drives great when it runs and idles smooth when it runs. No over heating or anything abnormal. Could my fuel filter be plugged? Because it seems it does not give enough gas when it starts up.
Help Me :(

Try pulling the clock fuse for 30 sec. to reset the ECU. If it runs the same after your fuel pump relay may be failing. Also when you start you car pause at the on position before going to start to let fuel presure build up and the ECU boot.

wow

I did the clock fuse and waited a minute... and then looked at my dad and said I do not know if this is going to work. I plugged the fuse back in and it started right up and purrrrrred like a kitten :) Thanks so much. i still think I will take it in just to have the emmision junk checked but Thanks So MUCH!!!!
How do you know this would work??

The ECU has a enough info programmed in to run the engine but that info is not perfect so as you drive the ECU also stores adjustments to the basic operating info. The adjustments are needed to get the best possible air/fuel ratio as measured by the O2 sensors. In your case with messing around trying to pass the emission test some bad adjustment data was stored in memory which was cleared with pulling the power that holds that memory.
