HI- didnt get a good answer off the search threads...so does anyone have these installed? either the Super Hot CHip from Dali or the comptech ones...are they worth it? any proven difference at all other than raising the redline a few hundred RPM?

thanks.

Your car is in the shop and you are asking about chips which raise the redline?!

... sounds like you've been taking hits off the Go-Fast Crack Pipe...

:D

Here's the results of the chip off dyno shootout off dali's site

http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/info/chipoff/chipoff_01.cfm

just because you have a more Aggressive chip does not mean you cannot use the tach, afterall thats why its there and where driving skill comes in,I hate to think we should rely on the rev limiter instead of practicing proper technique.when I first started driving my car very hard (day one)to redline I banged my limiter all the time.I never hit it anymore as my driving skill has increased. yet on another note 5inchfatlip if you go with a 'hot' chip you should not spray nitrous as the chips from my limited knowledge of them advance your timing to achieve some of the gains and thats a big no no as far as spraying the juice go's and we know you love the spray;)
BTW I just checked my ebay watch list and thought someone on the board might find this of interest: a Factor X modified ECU that has a modded chip socket, probably a zif socket which means you buy the modded ECU the auction states it comes with a stock chip and you can swap out with ANY of the known quality chips, dali, mugen ect. anyway heres the link.

as an after thought for anyone wondering what a swap out requires: no soldering..pop out one pop in another.with this type of set up you could use your stock chip when you know you want to spray nitrous and the a quick swap back to HOT for off the juice. no I dont know the seller or have a stake in the sale,I just know Factor X does quality work
Best regards David

Honda- yep, I need MORE Speed! :D

Carma- I'm aware that chips do not mix with the squeeze. I'm just thinking how much I can get out of the car while running N/A. The Dali chip is only $200 or so, and was just wondering if it's really worth it, one comes to think for that cheap what can it really do when combined with the major bolt on goodies.

I really dont want to raise the redline at all, I dont bang the limiter and have gotten better shifting by ear, and can get good shifts. Now when my GF drives the car is a different story, the car starts surging back and forth and she's like why is it doing that?? I dont need another few hundred RPM up that high ;)

AND YOU STILL LET HER DRIVE IT?:O
Carma, I only had a problem after my BBSC install with hitting the rev limiter. I've got it under control now but it sure comes up fast
after 5K rpm.:)
5inchfatlip, I actually think the car sounds sweeter near 8K and I have to check the tach or it's spank the limiter time..

Yes there is a big difference.

Adding less than 10 hp can hardly be called a "big difference"... and I sure wouldn't want to raise my rev limiter - that's a sure prescription for disaster. But hey, it's your car, your money at risk.

Ken,

I do not understand. What risks are inherent to adding a chip/ECU? Explain please, as I intended to have this modification done to my car eventually.

I think Ken's referring to the raising of the rev limiter as so enabled by the Dali chip.

Exactly.

The rev limiter is there for a reason. And there isn't a lot of leeway above that point before you can damage the engine.

Most of those who change electronics to raise the rev limiter do so because they have reinforced the block, installed aftermarket valve stems, and done other things to enable them to safely rev higher than stock (and even then, there are risks). I find the idea of raising the rev limiter without such mods (mods that enable the engine to safely rev higher) to be truly scary. Just my O.

Understood,

So these electronics override the factory rev limiter; and without reinforcing the various engine components you stand a greater chance of damaging the engine by assuming that your car now has an extra 500rpms.

Hey Ken are you related to this guy?:D

Not that I know of, but the logo on his shirt looks like a logical evolution of the Acura logo as it might appear in Stardate 3230.

K&N Filter, DC Headers, DaliRacing Chip

Nah, I'd rather spend my money on things that are worth the money - which does not include things that might damage my car, like a K&N Filter or a DaliRacing Chip.

There is documented proof of K&N filters drastically shortening the usable life of an engine done by some delivery company. I am not able to find it though. Ken might be able to.
Revving any stock engine past the manufacture's "fail safe" point ( as in aftermarket chips) is a high risk. Have not heard of any NSX's blowing because of this but i know of Integras.

The K&N debate rages on from time to time,I havenot done much active reserch on the filtering capacity of the washable reusable air filter systems but Dodge must feel it is ok since they put them on acr vipers.Plus I think the motorcycle literature should have some data as these are more common in cycles.

I recall Kent Shepley of American Honda fame posting a message on the NSX email lists stating that their research also indicates accelerated engine wear (piston rings?) from the use of K&N and other aftermarket filters.
