Filthy whore that she is! Actually the problem is an intermittent blower motor. The CCU seems to be working fine. At the highesr fan setting there is still no blower. Sometimes when I start the car the blower works, sometimes it takes a little driving and a bump to bring it to life. Also a rap on the blower motor housing has woken the thing up.

I've read both of these threads:

Keep in mind that in the last 6 years my car has been driven daily and now has almost 250,000 miles on it. The A/C is on almost all of the time.
Therefore being that it's a moving part, is it time to replace or at least disassemble the housing and clean whatever crap is in there? Fuse and relays are good.

What about the transistor component? My next step is to apply 12v to the 2P motor connector and see if she runs. How do you test the transistor module?

Considering the age of the car (1993) perhaps I should just replace the motor and transistor unit since they've had a good live and the new parts will be in the car for another 250,000 miles.

FWIW my CCU has never needed a BrianK repair. Probably due to the fact that it's used every day.

Am I on the right track here?

P.S. To BrinaK.. Sorry for not returning the call the other day. I was swamped at work and completely forgot. I have a CCU from the other '93 that's showing signs of doing the old "blow on high only" issue. I also have the main circuit board from that CCU that was vandalized by some guy's g/f with white latex paint that I bought on Prime a while back. I tossed the front half with the display and knobs since the paint was too tough to remove. The rear of the unit is cosmetically fine but the caps are bad. So I have 1 and 1/2 units to send you. Please PM me your address and PayPal infor so we can those parts fixed.

Thanks,
Hugh

I'm playing it safe and ordered the blower motor, the transistor thingie and the other fresh air motor doo-hickey. :)

Since the thing is gonna be out of the car might as well give it a complete rebuild.

I wonder what kind of crap I'm going to find in that blower housing.

Is it worth getting the new aftermarket A/C filter that I see out there?

hey hugh how you doing &the sheep
agree with brian,if you want to check power trans. anyway, disconnect transistor,my 97 manual shows blk,blk/blu,LT grn/blk , put volt meter to LT grn /blk and put fan switch in middle position, voltage should be around 6-7 ,if not problem in ccu, then turn off fan voltage should go .1 if yes replace power transistor (all their checking is if the ccu can vary the signal to the power transistor ) if i had to guess ,pull out the blower motor and check the brushes , (brian fixed my ccu -no problem - dealer claimed it was trans. -wrong )

Since I'm going to have to pull the thing out of the car I'm just going to simply swap the 3 electrical components for new ones and hopefully not have to deal with it for another 250,000 miles.

I'm just hoping I can squeeze it out past my Dali radiator shroud since removing that thing will be a pain in the ass. The alternative would be removing the battery tray and dropping it out the bottom of the car.

Bleh!
