Phil / Chuck - thank you so much for putting on the best damn driving schools period. It is such a pleasure to run at a fantastic track with great friends in a low key and professional event. Pictures coming soon.

Everyone else who was there - it was great seeing you all and having fun once again. Can't wait till we can do it again!

I would love to go back in September - the 13th also works for me.

I talked to Chuck today and told him I would be using my carry-over spot on 9/13. That date makes great sense to me personally, so I booked it. If you guys decide on another date, it will only give me reason to get up there one more time. :D

Who all is doing CGI Sept. 13th?

I just signed up for my first track event ever with CGI at Gingermen and am curious who's for sure going to be there? I remember seeing a thread elsewhere where what I thought were a lot of nsx owners planning on this date so I want to know who I'll finally meet when I get there.

[Admin note: I split the Sept. 13 event discussions off from the other CGI thread and merged dnyhof's inquiry into the new thread to keep all the discussion of this even together. Have fun!]

I am interested in the 13th as well. I am slowly building my car for getting back into a full track schedule, and Gingerman is a great place to get some bugs out. For you newbies, it is a very very safe track, and a lot of fun. I was addicted to it with my fwd turbo integra (could run even-up with a Z06) I can't wait to try it with the NSX!

I am waiting to see if NSX 3.0 wants to go. We probably would drive and NOT trailer. (5 hrs)

Yeah, just don't be the first car on (especially if your in your nsx) cuz then you'll most likely be right up by the dog cages! I had a hyper cocker spanial almost jump on my front bumper when the owner was getting it out for disembarking!!

You're not going to be my instructor that day are you? Cuz if your telling jokes like that while I'm driving I might need the barf bag (and it won't be because of my driving):p :p :p

The ferry is also an option for you guys...

I can drive faster..........

Because for the High speed ferry you need to be there an hour early, plus 15 min off, plus the drive to Milwaukee plus the 2 1/2 hours across the lake, plus the trek to Gingerman!!!!!!

The Manitowoc (slow ferry) is 4 hours (just did it 2 weeks ago) plus an hour early, 15 min off, plus the drive there and then to the track.

I think I will drive! :D

Hey all, I'm thinking of buying an extra set of brake pads to have with me at the track. I'm keeping my oem calipers so is just sticking with the stock pads a good idea or is there anything else out there that you'd all recommend?

Also, what else do I want to plan on taking with me to the track?

There are lots of different kinds of brake pads. They differ in their stopping power, resistance to heat on the track, amount of noise (squealing), amount of dust, effectiveness with/without warming up, etc. You can read about various pads in the FAQ and in previous topics.

My recommendation is that you call the nice folks at Cobalt Friction. They KNOW the NSX (Andie, their fearless leader, is an NSX owner). Great products, great prices, great service. They'll talk with you about your specific needs and priorities, and recommend a pad that is best for you.

(Right now I'm using the Cobalt GT Sport brake pads on the front, on the street and on the track, and so far I like them a lot.)

Look in the FAQ, under At the Track - Track Preparation, and you'll find a list.

That's funny, I could swear you're the guy who was just telling us how you prefer to take the route that takes longer because the scenery and the ride is more pleasant... :p

NOT when driving to a track! I would fly it if I could! Maybe I could make a hovercraft conversion.

PS; think about your statement there is NO scenery on the ferry (unless babes in bikini's) and there is NO "driving" involved.

:p :p :p :p :p :p

Are you claiming the ride isn't more pleasant?

I'll vouch for there being no babes in bikini's, but I think there's a heck of a smoking deck if you're into that sort of thing.:p

Hey all,
I just got my confirmation packet from CGI and see the checklist in here that states that a mechanic must sign off on my car. Has anyone who's been to a CGI event know how much they stick to a mechanic going over your car or can you do this yourself? It seems that if you are even somewhat mechanically inclined that someone could do this checklist themselves before arriving. I'm calling Phil regardless sometime this week, but I'm just curious as every mechanic I've talked to this week so far has stated their going to charge me between $40 on up to give it a "thorough go over".....

tech inspections

To my knowledge, NO AMATEUR club group ever verifies that the "tech inspection" is done by a qualified mechanic... the onus is really on YOU (the owner/driver) to make sure its checked by someone you trust. As responsible adults, we're held to an "honor system", and for the most part in works.

YES, someone mechanically inclined could very well do this... and its a pretty consistent check-out for the most part: nothing is loose, leaking, rubbing, hoses and belts are tight, and tires and brakes are in good condition. Particularly the last TWO items (brakes and tires) -- these are inspection/service items I would NEVER suggest skimping on.

Some clubs will actually will do a small "final tech" at the event itself, just to make sure basic stuff is OK -- wheel bolts and battery tight, pedal play, lights work, etc. CGI does not do this.

################

BTW, we had a great time at the 8/2 CGI event yesterday... the field had several NSXs (including 2 Zanardis), Ferraris (308, Mondial, 360 Challenge), a Radical (street-legal open-cockpit racecar), and the other usual suspects (Corvettes, Porsches, BMWs, Audis, Viper, Evos, WRX, etc). My student had a VW GTI R32 (AWD pocket rocket) -- fun little car.

So can we get a count for who all will be at the Sept. 13th event? I signed up for this one since it sounded like the most prime members were going to be there.

All you gotta do is go through the previous posts in this topic, and you come up with...

1. Gene (KGP)
2. Nick (matteni)
3. keN (nsxtasy)
4. Dave (DDozier)
5. Doug (dnyhof)
6. Tom (T Bell) (tentative) (NOT via ferry)
7. Steven (NSX 3.0) (tentative; mentioned in T Bell's post)
8. Manuel (nsx1164)
9. Dan (DanO)

And, of course, Chuck (Chuck) and Phil (no username).

EDIT: Updated list.

Anyone else local that's interested out there? I guarantee no one will look worse than me out there! :D

Hey, if my brake pads are getting toward the thin side is it ok if I just bring some extra sets along to change them in between runs or do I wanna just pull the old ones and put in the new ones and bed them prior to coming? Refering to the above post and checking over the car I want to come prepared but I don't want to waste pads that still have life in them (I don't think they're that bad but I just wanna be prepared and be on the safe side of things).

Go ahead and change them, but bring the old ones just in case you are feeling spunky and run off a set of pads, you will have something to put on for the ride home, you will use allot of brake pad at this track if you run hard. I ran off a full set of Hawk's the last time I was there. This is the place to run hard if you want to, very safe track.
