Does anyone know what a CD0-00 message means? I couldn't find it in the owners manual, the FAQ or the last years worth of repair forums.

The CD player has been working fine and was working this morning but later this afternoon, when I turned it on, it tried to start playing the first CD but the display just sat at 1-00 and then it flashed and went to 2-00, then 3-00 and when it finished the last one, it went to 0-00 and the only way I could get it to re-try was to remove and re-insert the cartridge.

It almost seemed like there was some condensation on the cartridge and inside the player so I left it open to dry out but no luck. I can hear it making a click-click noise in between CDs so it sounds like its changing each one ok but won't or can't read it.

The CDs are all facing the right way and the cartridge is in the player the right way. Anyone got any ideas what's wrong?

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem.
I took the CD Changer apart, and cleaned the lens, and sprayed the vicinity of the lens with air spray pressure can to dust off the dirt. However, no luck with such method :(

I originally tried to sell the CD Changer, but I cannot anymore since it wouldn't read the CDs anymore.

Just to close the loop on this topic, the local Alpine repair center says I need a new optical pickup unit. Total bill .. about $180 for parts and $70 for labour (in Canadian dollars) .. probably about $175 US. For not a whole lot more, I think I can get a brand new Alpine 634 with MP3 support. Recent posts seem to suggest that it's not that tough to modify things to make it work. Due to the much smaller size, I might even mount it in the interior this time.
