Car wash and engine trouble?

Has anyone ever encountered problems with their engine running after washing their car? Can water get in to the intake? I have a CT cold air intake and after washing my car the other day, it bogged down very badly and the engine light came on. The light is still on and the car is running sluggish under 2000rpm as well as from a standing stop. I recently added the CTSC 9psi upgrade kit which is when the issues began. I thought it was an improperly tuned regulator but don't know. Each time I go to my mechanic, he "tweaks it," gives it back and it does the same thing a day or so later. It's making me feel VERY uncomfortable to drive it. Towed it twice and damn near got killed once. Comptech is sending me another regulator which I'm hoping will do the trick.

ANY advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

McAttack,

If the problem started when you installed the 9psi kit, then I am not understanding any reference to washing the car?? If this STARTED since the 9psi kit was installed, you need to focus on that.

Until that is sorted out, looking for other issues will just add confusion to the troubleshooting process.

In regard to the engine light, pull the code(s). That will tell you plenty. My gut tells me you probably have some sort of fuel issue: lean/rich??

I too would be uncomfortable since this could be a lean condition, it could make for a bad day for your engine.

You may want to check the 3 rearward facing ignition coils for water seepage. Maybe one of their rubber seals is leaking?

I took a chance today and drove the car last night. Started it up this and it was running a bit rough but acceptable. Drove about 3 miles and stopped for gas. Filled it up, got in, started it up and DAMN!!!!!! Same F&%?**# thing! I called CT to rant. After talking with them, it seems like it may be less of a regulator issue and more of a "mapping sensor" issue. Either way, it really sucks. I just got the car in April, dropped $20 k more on it in May and am doing more whining in June than the SC.

I have noticed that if I can keep it above 3000 rpms it won't stall but that has its own set of problems.

I'm driving down to the shop in a few. CT said to call to walk my mechanic through a fix.

Stay "tuned"...(and thanks for your feedback)

Not making light of your troubles, but that is a GREAT line.

Update......

Happy Ending?

Well, after 2 hours at my mechanics and a call to CT, it appears the source of my misery was a loose connection to the brain behind the passenger seat. I've been out driving for the past hour and can honestly say, "WWOOWWWW!" Something was definitely amiss before. The engine is now unbelievably smooth almost to the point where it feels like the car is even handling better! Or possibly because because after a half hour of waiting for it to act up, I realized it wouldn't and actually relaxed enough to enjoy the ride. (Hard to have fun when your waiting to break down). So if I leave work later and it get's me home, then I'll REALLY be lovin' life. Did I mention "WWOOWWWW!" ?

To top it off, I was able to secure Mass's NSXTC vanity plate today! (HAV NSX was also available but my wife would disown me)

Off to Dyno the CTSC 9psi this Saturday. Life is good! Not too happy, am I ?

Did I mention "WWOOWWWWW!" ?

Take care and thanks for the feedback!

McAttack,

Hey, Great News! Glad to hear it worked out. I hope you can make it to the New Hampshire event this Sept. I want a ride in this monster!!

Day 2 and running like a dream (which I have come to learn not to take for granted) Seems like the nightmare is over.

Yes, I will be in NH Larry. Now that my cars running the way I hoped for, I look forward to meeting as many fellow NSX'ers as I can before the first snow!
