Car Alarm Installation Question

I am trying to get an aftermarket alarm installed to my car. However, the price difference among different shops for the same unit varies too much.

For instance, one shop will sell Viper 300 (installed) for $240, whereas the other shop will sell the same unit (installed) for $300.

Does it matter which shop I go to? I have never had an aftermarket alarm, and I am afraid that they may screw up some electronic system in the car.

Here's my criteria:
- Been in business at least 5 years
- Lifetime warranty on installation
- Insurance coverage to cover replacing your
entire car for fires caused by faulty installation
- Soldering and shrink tubing instead of crimping and taping
- Neat workmanship
If most if not all criteria are met, cost might be slightly higher than average.

Thanks a lot for your help. I guess that I will just pay little more for the peace of mind (I am sure that there is reason for costing more).

A quality installation is worth paying extra for. However, just because one place is more expensive doesn't necessarily mean that it is higher quality.

I would suggest asking the higher-priced place why their price is higher than the other one. They may give you some specific reasons which make sense to you, and/or they might lower their price.

Excellent advice!! Thank you very much, NSXTACY!!

I just had an Alpine SEC-150R alarm installed in my car last week. It was done by a shop that installs a lot of sound systems for the Baltimore Ravens. They quoted me $399 but I talked em down to $300. So you can use that for comparison. I love the Alpine alarms. All three of my vehicles have them. I'd avoid any of the chain stores like Circuit City and others.
