CANCELLED! Wednesday July 16th 2008 Kid's Day at the Glen

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

I'm supposed to be out of town, but I'll try to reschedule, couple 'a questions:

1) Is there a "lapping" element, or just driving responsibly with the kids? (relevant as to which car to take)
2) Is there consensus on what to do: Hotel, dinner, etc.
3) Can I get help from Ron or Bob if I get any speeding tickets on the way?
4) Can I bring one of my own kids?
5) What level of track experience is required?
6) DO I need more than one day's clothes, or can I just trade for new stuff? :p

Depending on answers, I'll try to get a Canadian Contingent down for this

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

I would like to attend this too. Not sure if I can as I'm on holidays the week before.

What's the deal with putting kids in the front of a car with airbags? Illegal here.

These are parade laps, no passing or driving aggressively
2) Is there consensus on what to do: Hotel, dinner, etc.
Most of us stay at the Long House Lodge, we go to dinner as a group
3) Can I get help from Ron or Bob if I get any speeding tickets on the way?
Absolutely, for a price!
4) Can I bring one of my own kids?
As long as they're old enough and responsible enough for when you're out on the track
5) What level of track experience is required?
Check the www.trackmasters.com site for info, or PM Pete Mills
6) DO I need more than one day's clothes, or can I just trade for new stuff? :p
You don't, but everyone else does!

These kids are not in car seats, most of them are between the ages of 9-17, you're not driving competitively, passing or getting in accidents, not an issue!

Remember, this is the most rewarding experience that you can have in your NSX, sharing something that you love with a kid who is fighting the battle of their life, putting a smile on their face, and hopefully helping them forget their pain and suffering for just a little while.

1. The day starts off with parade speed laps (no passing) before the kids get there so everyone gets acclimated to the track. Then we take the kids around for about an hour before having lunch with them. HOWEVER, Trackmasters is doing a school for Intermediate level students as well as the usual Open Track 4 hours+ per day in case you want to actually get real track time.

2. Many of us stay at the Longhouse. We will be having dinner at a local winery the night before.

3. Speeding tickets get referred to NSXer/Open Tracker Gary Sommer. He is our local mouthpiece.

4. Yes, you can bring one of your own kids and can take your own for the parade laps that are done before the campers arrive.

5. No track experience required for the parade laps and kids laps. Intermediate level required to be entered in the school. If not already an Open Tracker, you can apply to be a Check Out as long as you qualify to attend the Intermediate School if you do not pass.

6. No other women attending will be drunk enough to trade clothes with you so bring your own cool dress.

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

OK, with the exception of having to bring my own clothes this sounds GREAT!

I'm gonna tow down the Posrche and do the two days of TrackMasters too! If I could only get a trailer hitch on the NSX!

I may get someone to drive my NSX there too!

What's the deal with "no garage?" can I leave my car outside at WGI overnight?

That is the week of the Wine Festival and they use the garage bays so that is the only event where we cannot reserve a garage. We usually get there early the first day and park down the end of the grandstand on the front straight and get a covered spot under the stands.

However, they are doing construction and we don't know whether we will have access to that area in July. No matter what, you can leave the car overnight in the paddocks as many people do. We try to get covered spots for that event and you can leave your car there as well if they open that area.

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

Its official!

I'm "IN"

Booked Longhouse Tues and Wed night - will do Trackmasters for Wed/Thurs (already booked) no NSX tho - will trailer down Porsche

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

now up to 21 cars and still over a month to go!!!

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

what is the trailer like Stu - single car or multiple?

I don't think our 18 wheeler transporter will be ready by then - but it is a month so anything is possible!

Would you want to transport down with me if I take the race-rig?

(If not it will be one of our open trailers with a shitty backup truck - it seems its either Bling or Blah!)

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

I dont know if I am definately going. I want to go but work issues are keeping me from comitting and if I figure those out, Im going to need a set of wheels brought down, or my car transported also. Sounds like you would have room for wheels and possibly for the car.

I bet you're looking forward to using those "rest stops" once the sun goes down. Is that why you picked up a big rig?

Watch it - or I'll sell you're car in Rochester on my way down!

If I'm taking a pickup truck I can take your wheels, I just don't have an awesome way of locking them up at night - but if you give me a lift to and from the track we can lock them in the Cab of the pickup.

Not to say that you won't be the first, but I have done 35 days at Watkins Glen and have never heard of anyone "losing" anything while left overnight (or even in the day). Many people have left their cars and trailers overnight without any issues,

Bob left his virginity in the paddock overnight ..and it was still untouched the next morning.

I am still waiting for it to be touched.......

I can't lie to you guys - - I am not that shallow. I really am quite sensitive. Sometimes I just want to be held. (but just not by any of you....)

Yes, but without his magic track wheels (and magic underpants) Dave is only able to drive at 4/10ths - which makes the drive to the Glen a waste. If he can't do his full 4.7/10ths why bother showing up at all?

Obviously not on a NASCAR weekend!

Bob, I'm pretty sure you are a little "touched"

When you're done holding, give it a shake and put it back where it belongs, then, for god's sake, wash your hands!

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

Damn, you Canooks are rough, trust me after you see these kids and spend some time with them, you'll be mush!!! Then you're going to want Bob to "hold you"!!

I'm sure I'll be humbled by the kids' ability to deal with adversity.

I know Dave will be humbled by the kids' driving skills (he views them as instructors that weigh a little less, so he can lean out his a/f ratio and go for power) (we need to make sure he gets one that was there last year so they know the track a bit!!!

As for being Mush around Bob, trust me, all the Viagra in the world couldn't get me "not mush" about the thought of Bob holding me!

We Canucks rough? Thats just how we roll baby!

Levitra Bob alone!!!

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

All of this just because Dave is worried about his 4.710ths wheels!

The abuse I handle to help out a fellow NSXer!

Just make sure that the Canadian contingency shows up at this event, might not be a "BeerFest", but it's a "KidFest" and what better cause exists?
Bob is a longtime participant in this event, as well as the "photographer of record", if you're really nice and offer to give him a hug, he might even take you for "hot laps" in his newly refinished low mileage car!!!!

Is an NSX supporter who currently drives a Porsche welcome?

Long time NSXCA member requests allowed presences at this event. Is a red/tan 911 welcome in place of my red/tan NSX which I miss badly? I have joined y'all on 3 or 4 previous such events. Gonna stay at Glen Motor Inn Though.

Re: Wednesday July 16th Kid's Day at the Glen

Bob/Roger and the NE Crew,

Marji and I will be coming down. Just booked at Longhouse Lodge.
