I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't locate anything through the search.

I was wondering if there is anyway to convert a non-PS 1991 model to PS. I'm not having much fun trying to manuever in parking lots -- either that or I have to get bulked up!!!!

While I am not answering your question directly, this might help. When I bought my 94, it required trememdous effort to turn the damn wheel. It was like I needed to get warmed up before I attempted to warm the car up.

Once I had it aligned, the difference was like night and day. The initial toe and caster settings were significantly off. If you havent had an alignment done recently, it might make the effort so much more tolerable. The road feel of a manual steering car is tremendous. Dunno if you want to lose that even if someone could install a PS unit.

Also, make sure your tires have the proper air pressure. When they are low, it can make turning more difficult.

Other than that, I've learned to live with it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful...

Sorry for my newbiness and tons of questions, but I am relatively new to the NSX Platform. I own a 3000GT, but have found an NSX that I am interested in purchasing. It is a 1991. As I was just browsing through here I noticed this thread, and it seems that the 1991 NSX's do not have power steering? Would it be a pain for you to have it installed? I have driven cars with no power steering, and it's preety damn bad...how is no power steering on the NSX? Is it as rough as I think it is?

How is the NSX w/o power steering: It is amazing. In fact, if I bought a newer NSX to replace my current one...I would swap out the steering with a manual steering system.

The feel of the road is not to be missed.

It IS a little difficult doing tight parking, but it is well worth it. Unless you have a physical ailment, I highly recommend getting used to it. You will not be disappointed.

I've had my NSX for about 5 years now. I look forward to driving it EVERY single day. Mostly because of the steering, you feel like you are in completely control. I like it better than the F360 that I was allowed to drive for a few miles.

The EPS (power steering) should be a complete drop in, but there are a lot of parts to it and they are expensive...so make sure you get them all if you buy a used "kit".

dont forget you'll have to wire up the EPS to the ecu for it to function properly.

Thanks alot man, you keep saying the feel of the road is amazing without the power steering in these cars. The fact this 91 doesn't have power steering kind of made me weary of wanting it, but if you guys swear by it...I guess it is a preety exhilarating feeling. Tight parking is no concern of mine, since I park next to no one with my 3000GT, I would never trust them next to an NSX. I am good to go with this deal on the NSX, I just need to sell my 3000GT. I hope things will work out.

I've had my 92 for 13 years now (w/o ps) and to be honest, I never even think about it when driving - for me, it's a non-issue. I love the feel of the steering and the effort required has never seemed excessive at all.

To be honest the NSX is designed w/o power steering, just keep in mind it won't be as bad as a car that is designed to have power steering and it being removed.

I car without power steering has a manual rack, it's not the same as a power steering car with the belt cut.

Dropping in the EPS would require dropping the entire rack I'm sure, an expensive venture.

For the 3000GT guy all I can say is test drive it. You don't even have a context for what the manual rack is like, so making a decision on a car based on power steering is a little silly without driving it first.

Please keep in mind that the NSX is a mid engine so there is significantly less weight over the front end which makes power steering more difficult on other front engine cars. Ive driven both front and mid engine cars without power steering and the NSX is not that bad. I wouldnt give it up tho after having that feel of "total control" that the NSX has without power steering.

For those looking at non-ps NSXs and don't like it, don't buy the car. It would be horrible to adulterate such a precise piece of engineering. You would likely screw your resale value and basically there would be one less NSX in the world for the rest of us.
