Camshaft sensor assembly

Anybody know anthing about the camshaft position sensor and how often they go bad? My mechanic says that my sensor is in the process of going bad and would like some feedback from some more experienced NSX owners.

The sensor either works or it doesn't. The front plastic coating will melt and drip down the front of the motor but this is normal, it does'nt mean the sensor is going to go bad. If that is why he thinks you need to replace it I would just leave it alone.
