Calling CO folks, considering relocating to Ft Collins

I relocated from NE to South end of Fort Collins 8 years ago. Great place to live, good school system (not sure if that's a factor or not) and weather is definitely dryer than Denver. It is a college town, so waiting lines for most downtown restaurants are the norm.

Fairly safe (lower crime rate) and the politics are more conservative than Boulder. Growth rate has been considerable since I've been here, and some of the surrounding commuties are feeling the infrastructure pinch. Traffic is not bad (though locals would say otherwise) esp compared to metro Denver, Boulder or Springs area. This is heaven compared to commuting in NE.

Not sure what your profession is, but Denver and Boulder both have a clear advantage with tech jobs (where I'm employed) and seem to be more competitive.

Isn't Fort Collins where Fat Tire is brewed? If so... that's nearly enough in and of itself for one to seriously consider a move.

Yes, New Belgium is here (nice people, I know several of them and play soccer against several more)...as are quite a few other microbreweries. While I appreciate that a lot of other people live and die for Fat Tire Amber Ale...I'm not a fan. I much prefer a wheat beer, and within that category I like Big Horn Brewing's Hefeweizen much better than New Belgium's Sunshine Wheat. My neighbor owns a brew pub/restaurant in Old Town that's very good (Coopersmith's).

The local Budweiser plant dwarfs all the microbreweries combined. Each day approximately 250 semi trucks and 13 rail cars will leave there full of beer (and despite misplaced assumptions to the contrary their operations are quite green, especially considering scale).

Latzke and everyone else,

Good news! You have no reason to worry about me adding to the population of Fort Collins or becoming an additional liberal influence as I have decided to relocate to Santa Fe, NM. Thanks again for your input everyone.

Fat Tire has always been a special beer to me as I tried it first on my initial trek to snowboard in Aspen. Many snowboarding trips to Vail later, I was hooked.

Unfortunately, for some stupid reason, New Belgium did not have a distributorship in CA for a very, very long time. So it was a big deal for us to get Fat Tire. Each year for nearly a decade, we'd enjoy Fat Tire while in AZ for spring training, fill a big cooler with dry ice and then bring it back to S. CA in the car.

In the last year we started to get Fat Tire here. First in 22oz bottles at BevMo. Then in special order 6-packs. Now it's almost everywhere.

I still enjoy the beer (when I'm lucky enough to find it when it hasnt' been skunked by being left in the heat) but it's not as special to me as it once was.

But being at altitude after a long day of snowboarding... a Fat Tire still works its magic.
