For sure.

Well we have had some sharky issues lately.. one swimmer was attacked and killed in Solana (near Carlsbad, Del Mar) and 2 others in Mexico within 2 weeks I believe... Your pretty safe in the waters of OC, but down in La Jolla whitey is def around due to the seal population and the deep sea canyon at Blacks..it can get pretty gnarly out there as far as the vibe every once in a while.. Swimming with seals is having a death wish in most waters..

As for the jetty its not that dangerous.. you just have to watch for it on bigger swells, but on souths it breaks far enough out your usually past it before your in too close, but on big NW you can find yourself near it on the end of a long ride.. you cant see the extension in this picture..

Shark attacks remain extremely rare world wide and here in S. CA. But even one attack is too many (esp. if you're the one attacked) and is surely likely to gain a lot of press.

The Orange County Register has a story today about a great white that reportedly shadowed an outrigger off Laguna and Dana Point.

Shark attack or Heart Attack, it can happen. The brother in law of one of my co-workers suffered a massive heart attack while surfing in Huntington Beach a couple of weeks ago. He passed away in the water. He was a Hawaii boy so he loved surfing.

I'll be moving to SD in about a year and I'm looking towards La Jolla south. I'll be working at Point Loma and a short commute means a lot to me, but may be a little pricey for me. I'm even looking into commuting from south OC (living w/ my brother) on the metrolink. I doubt the money savings would offset the time, but we'll see.
