Does a 1991 NSX have a catalytic converter in the stock exhaust system? If sold in CALIFORNIA must the exhaust be original to pass state tests? JD

Two cats.

In theory the seller should provide a current smog check. The equipment should be stock or have a CARB approved part. Depends on how hard the smog tech looks at the car as to what may get by.

There's the visual check and the exhaust test.

Yes the stock cats should be on the car unless they are not working properly then you can go with aftermarket cats as long as they are CARB approved.

After the cats you can have whatever exhaust you want.

BTW the NSX is a 50 state car so there is no difference between cars bought and sold from one state to another.
