I'm willing to give up some weight for effective sound insulation. I'm considering adding up to 15-20lbs of sound insulating material.

I know it starts with the tires - i'm not going to compromise on tires.
My exhaust is also as quiet as I can make it.

This leaves interior sound dampening solutions. What do you guys use for lightweight dynamat material? How about the bedliner roll-on material?

I'm considering dynamatting my doors and doing the roll-on bedliner stuff behind the back panels (on the panels themselves).

Happy to hear ideas. Thanks guys

I did this a while ago. Ordered a roll (I think it was 50 square feet) of b-quiet extreme. This was the cheaper one, not the ultimate. I should have gotten the better one, but i cheaped out. It was half the price. Anyways, I did the floors, rear liner, doors, roof, shifter tunnel, everything and it wasn't enough. I was short about 10 sq ft. The difference is minimal. I didn't really hear a noticable difference. Eventually, I put back on the stock exhaust.

I used the roofing tar tape stuff sold at Home Depot on my s2000. People have complaints about it smelling like asphalt when it gets hot but idk. I live in Miami (gets pretty hot and humid) and my car was black. I never noticed any smell and it held up great and VERY cheap

i did some experiments with my tl and s2000 based on newer Lexus designs. The three areas where I found the most improvements in order from most to least were

-dampening material on top of the fender liners

-the rear bulkhead/firewall w.e. it's called. I guess this would be interesting since our engine is aft of us.

-the footwell area.

before these areas were treated I would travel about 70 in my TL and felt like I was in a hurricane. After I could go about 100 before I heard any noticeable road noise. Granted the TL had ALOT more dampening material than the nsx. Ill be trying some stuff out when i get home

we used this stuff it was almost like cloth its the newest sound deadner they have out super paper thin with one side sticky. it almost made the NSX we put it in to quiet but the price was off the chain.

I will post the name later I cant remember where we got it. it was grey and resembled cloth to me. but it was made of some kinda rubber stuff. they use it on high end cars like bentleys

I've seen Bently wheel liner's with this stuff, always thought it was just carpet/cloth liner bc it was a Bently. Would also love to know what the name of it is.

I'd like to know what Shawn is talking about too.

I dyna matted my doors for better sound for the new stereo, and after the firmer engine mounts and Messiah exhaust i did the firewall it was against everything i was trying to achieve.
I think i am going to take the stuff off the doors to lose that weight and i hardly listen to music anymore in this car so that doesnt worry me but would still like something behind me so what is this cloth stuff because i will rip the Dynamat off the panels if it is that lighweight.

yeah try driving 3 hours or so to the track and back without the sound proofing with those mods and you soon get sick of the noise, if i trailered it there would be nothing in it.

Put the roof on? J/K
