Hey Primers,
I was sitting in my 92 lastnight, listening to some tunes in the garage since it's still winter (Yep, i'm a geek). When i turned the key to accessory i could hear a constant buzzing or vibration sound coming from the glove box area?? any clue what the heck it could be? It's bugging the hell out of me... It was late, didnt feel like opening the hood, would have had to take the rest of cover off and all that jazz. I'm not a gear head by anymeans just an NSX enthusiast. Thanks for any input

It's the aspirator fan right in front of the hand brake lever. You need to remove the center console and clean and lube the fan shaft.

I would spray with a can of air first. I had the same problem on my 91 and that fixed it. Dust can collect on the fan and the shaft. If you blow it off every six months or so you shouldn't have the problem again.

Thanks for the info! Like i said... I'm not a gear head. Is it ok to drive it to my NSX tech for repair?

Absolutely ok to drive it. It is for the A/C system. It draws cabin air to a sensor I think. I would do as Lostbuckeye says and try the can of air first before paying someone to repair it.

Will do, Thanks for the tips and advice

What everyone else says is good advice. What you are hearing is probably the aspirator fan, which gets dirty and noisy over time.

Don't be surprised, though, if spraying through the vents with compressed air doesn't cure the problem. I tried that and it didn't work on mine. It happened to be convenient for me to take it to our electronics whiz and friend Briank who refurbished mine.

Beware, many mechanics (particularly at dealers) will just replace the aspirator fan with a new one, which lists for $400 (sometimes discounted to $300). Doing so is probably not necessary, but gives them more assurance that the problem won't return. Many mechanics prefer to replace assemblies rather than try to refurbish them for this reason. But there's no reason you can't clean out the fan rather than replacing it.

Fortunately, you live near an independent mechanic with a lot of experience working on NSX's, so if the compressed air doesn't work, I recommend taking it there; they'll know what to do:

Bahhahahha!! I was certainly enjoying the evening and regretting it this morning :very_drunk:

i'm sure my neighbors loved all the loud music coming from my garage at 12:30 am . What the hell is wrong with that guy?

The fan is pretty easy to clean. You need to take off the center council plate to get to it bit after that it's no too hard. My was coated with everything you can think of. After cleaning it out input a drop of 3-1 oil on the bushings (not sure that's the right oil but mine has been silent ever since.
