To my surprise, I stumbled across this 'tidbit' of news, a few days old:

So where is Brunei, see 'background'?

Why? read attached link:

I could only IMAGINE what they look like! - Aloha

No offense to those in Brunei, but unless you are already familiar with the northern coastline of East Malaysia on the island of Borneo, that map isn't going to tell you where Brunei is. A better map (because it shows where Brunei is in relation to the rest of Asia) appears here.

i went to your link...
apparently they are no longer including royalty in the list because their assests are too difficult to determine. their estimate of the sultan's wealth is $10 billion, which would've tied him for the 20th richest person.
surprisingly (at least to me) queen elizabeth and castro do not make the list not because of the royalty exclusion, but because they're simply not rich enough... queen elizabeth at around $330mil and castro at $100mil

Im from Malaysia, so heres a little bit of background on Brunei...

Its a small little country nestled bbetween Malaysias Eastern states, Sabah and Sarawak (sarawak being the bigger of the 2). I have no idea how that country formed between the 2, but the Sultan of Brunei I would say is probably the richest person in SOutheast Asia and probably around the Australasian region. The country is pretty rich as it owns tons and tons of offshore oil rigs, in which most of the profit made from selling oil goes directly to the SUltan (at least thats what I was told). I dont know who the current Sultan of Brunei is, but when I heard about him last, he was a major car freak. He owned about 200-300 cars.

Oh and one more thing..in Malaysia, buying cars is really expensive. We typically have a 300% tax on all imported cars. So a regular Ford Mustang GT would probably cost like $100000, a Lamgorghini Diablo would cost close to about $1.5 million, and so would Ferraris (THese dollar amounts are AFTER currency conversions from ours, which is Ringgit, to US dollars)

Aha! I didn't bother looking that far. Thanks, Nick!

Not exactly. It is entirely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak (along with the South China Sea), and is a few miles across Sarawak from the nearest border with Sabah.

From the 14th to the 16th centuries Brunei (technically it is known as Brunei Darussalam) was the seat of a powerful sultanate extending over Sabah, Sarawak and the lower Philippines. By the 19th century, the Brunei Darussalam Empire had been whittled away by wars, piracy and the colonial expansion of European powers.
Brunei entered into a series of treaties and agreements with the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century and ceded Sarawak to James Brooke of Britain in 1841. It officially became a British protectorate in 1888, and regained full independence in 1984.

There's more information on Brunei's official government website here.

he also hires hollywood actresses and models to come "hang out" at his palace for months at a time. what it is they do while "hanging out" seems to be hush hush... but you can use your imaginations.

Yea, I saw a feature on one of the TV news magazines a while back on the sultan, and his younger brother, Prince Jefri. It talked about how the female guests they were bringing in had to first go through a medical check including screening for all types of STDs. I guest this would be a prerequisite for travelling on Jefri's yahct, TITS, with its two dingys, Nipple1 and Nipple2.
Must be great to be born into a billionaire's lifestyle. A virtually limitless budget for exotic cars, boats, and babes shipped in like ordering from the Sears catalog.

Its true. I live there (Brunei). All were autos with 95 models having tiptronics transmission. Downsides are that not all of the NSX are really completely perfect. Climate control not working, power steering, power window, dummy high mounted rear brake lights, jittery engine sound and so on. But for the price it is quite a bargain. I think they are selling Porsche 911 next.
