Brake fluid leaking from ABS unit.....help!

Hello everyone,
I have a 92 NSX with about 66K miles. I have noticed that every so often when I drive my car, the ABS unit kicks on and I hear this screeching noise that comes from the ABS unit. Does that mean I have a slow leak from the ABS unit? Anyway, I noticed the other day that this sound was staying on alot longer than usual so I opened up my front hood and noticed there was brake fluid coming from the cap area. My question is:
Do I have a defective ABS unit or do I have a defective CAP? Please shed some info. Thanks.

I do not think you have a defective ABS system, a least one that cannot be fixed easily. You do have a stuck selonoid in the ABS System. Restart the car, make sure the ABS light is out, so the system is enables, and work it. GEt the ABS to engage and give you the "kick-back" in the pedal a few times. You should be OK. Do this monthly!

Larry is right, if his remedy does not work you may need to have your tech evacuate the fluid from the system, replace with new fluid and have him manually exercise the solinoids in the process.
 
Im just wondering but how does one Manually excer. them? I get the regular 'Machine Gun' sound after I jam on the brakes (as i did yesterday to avoid an accident) and then all I do is hit a wet spot on the road and jam them and it is all done. Have not had to 'top off' the resv.

Yes - that's one way to exercise them. However, you don't even have to wait for wet pavement. Just do this:

1. Make sure you don't have anything loose in your car that's going to go flying if you brake hard.

2. Take your car out on a highway and make sure there's no one at all behind you.

3. From at least 40 mph (and preferably more like 60 mph), slam on the brakes AS HARD AS YOU CAN. You should feel the pedal pulse and hear the ABS pump kick on; if you don't, you probably didn't slam them as hard as you needed to (right, Vik?

However, you're right - it's easier to exercise them on wet pavement, and you can do it at even a slow speed in a parking lot quite safely...
 
I prefer the following method...

Look under Solenoid Flush.

I think it's safer and you'll minimize the possibility of throwing stones and debris up onto the lower part of the body and flat-spotting your tires.

It takes about 30 minutes max. And, doing an occasional flush and is always a good thing to do anyway.

PS: I had this problem on my prior NSX and the "slam the brakes" approach (even after a half-dozen) attempts didn't clear the crud out anyway.

If you can't get the ABS pump to cycle from slamming on the brakes, no matter how hard you try, then Jimbo is correct - you need to get your system serviced.
