Does anyone know which of the two brake caliper pins are located on top as i didn't take notice which pin came from which hole.

I have measured the bracket holes they seem to be identical however the gold pin is slightly larger in diameter than the black one.

I always thought they were the same size. but if one is bigger in diameter than the other then slide the bigger one in one of the holes and if it fits then it doesnt matter.
if it will not fit in one then try the other.

one thought is maybe the previous owner lost or had it replaced and didnt get the right size to begin with.

I would be worried about any play in the caliper if they are size specific.

now there maybe a difference in size with certain years.

Each caliper has a gold and black pin the gold pin has 3 flat machined grooves along its length while the black one is all round.

I have tried putting each pin in both bracket holes they both seem to have the same fit even though the gold pins measures slightly larger.

I would assume the reason for the different pins is because of the extra force on the bottom pin due to the rotation of the rotor.

They are different sized. I don't remember which one is where though... I'm surprised both pins will go into both holes correctly though.

Did you work on both sides at the same time or can you just go check the other side for proper orientation?

Thanks Larry:biggrin:

Once you have the pins out, clean the old grease off of them and have a good look at them. The round pins on both my calipers were worn to the point that I could feel the slack from wear. I could also see the worn spots on the pins. I replaced them. They aren't very exspensive, even from the dealer. When you're putting it back together, be sure to regrease them with high-temp silicone grease.

Yep all done thanks for your input all pins were like new no scuff or wear marks. Cleaned and hi-temp grease used.

Pics of calipers newly painted with 3m matt black caliper paint.
