I accidentally bought some Oakley Half Jacket (XLJ) fake sunglasses. Man....these things almost look like the real thing. I picked them up from his house. But when I happen to be at Sunglass Hut, I noticed one difference from the real Oakleys. I know the guy's address, first name, and cell phone number.

1)If I report him to local police, can they bust this guy?
2)If I report him to Oakley, what action would they take?
3)How would I go about getting my money back? I paid $75.

I would guess it's so far down the priority list nothing would be done. Your money back:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Yeah, go to the police station and be a good citizen. Turn in your glasses as evidence.

I am a licensed Oakley dealer. Can beat most vendors $$ as long as they are new and authentic of course. PM me with your style name and lens options and your best local store $. Online $ difficult to beat based on questionable vendors unless it's from Oakley dot com. You can email Oakley with your counterfeit issues. Trust me. If you ever get a chance to tour their facility you will see why they are a lil $$. Top notch R&D. Why military, law enforcement, and athletes use them.

Might be hard to prove that he knew it was a fake. If he didn't know, then it's not fraudulent on _his_ part. Maybe if he knows the people making or importing them... Also might be hard to prove he was representing them as authentic. If there's a Craigslist post or something that lays it out clearly, then great, but if it's verbal, he can always deny it.

Stuff that's hard to prove doesn't get picked up by the prosecutor half the time. In a case like this, I'd be trying to scare the guy into giving your money back, which actually works sometimes.

Local police don't handle copyright or patent stuff, so that angle's out. Honestly, in WA at least, the legal teeth the police can threaten him with are somewhat limited.

Ouch. No one likes to get taken, but I doubt you have Any practical legal options.
This happened to me when I was in college. I bought some fake eyejackets that were advertised as real. They were exact except the grey color of the frames was just a little too dark. In my case I just told the kid if I saw him again I was gonna kick his ass, and he gave most of my money back to a mutual friend, who then gave it back to me. I then lifted the ass kicking fatwa and bought genuine eyejackets at Sunglass Hut, and we all lived happily ever after.

College life was simpler...

Agreed. Although if I'm getting a shotgun blast or hammer to the face, I think have bigger issues to contend with than my sunglasses.

I always assume if you get a really great price there's a great chance they are fake.

I'm so impressed with Oakley's now I'm gonna go grab a pair of these in carbon fiber:

LOL how do u accidentally buy the sunglasses? Alot of stuff on craigslist is buyer beware.

I did not know the extent of technology into these sunglasses. I do have oakleys myself but i make sure mine are polarized because of all the driving i do during the HOT summer months. ANd those carbon fiber sunglasses look awesome...

Don't let on that you know. Go back there and see if he has another pair for you and bring a plainclothes immigration officer along.

You tried to be a cheap ass and buy them on the down low. I say make it a lesson learned and move on. And besides, who cares whether they are real or not?

The reason it matters is multifold.
Comfort is superior
finish is superior and less likely to cause allergic skin reactions
optical quality is far superior. I do an in house test for the patients demonstrating the aberrations and image deflection of the fakes
in a car accident or fist fight the last thing you want in front of your eyes is plastic bits in front of your eyes.
Some of the fakes don't block UV light. I have a UV meter in my office to demonstrate this.

Do you have any jewelry connections? My wife really wants a bvlgari watch for her bday. It is pricey!

I don't have any jewelry connections. Check online for reputable dealers (can contaxt bvlgari to confirm them) particularly in New York for the best deals. Approach some local dealers with option of paying cash to save $.

I sent Jeff what I was looking for form the Oakley site, he sent me the price, I sent payment via paypal and I received what I ordered in 2 weeks. It took that long as I ordered custom glasses.

I just wanted to post that I had a great experience dealing with Jeff. I deffineatly recommend doing business with him.
