If you like the celtics click here, this is a nice audio montage of the season.

Wait til' we get Bynum back so Perkins and KG won't have their way w/ Pao.

Jeff

Its not even going to be close. I don't agree with Malibu at all, I think the Lakers were never in this thing, and it was never close. I don't think most people really really know KG, nor Allen, nor Pierce. I mean does anyone know what Ray Allen has done in this league? What KG has done in his carreer? How Paul Pierce came back the year after being stabbed 11 times in the neck and chest?

This is the first year these guys were together. They went 66-16 (The Lakers went 57-25). The Celtics stopped the 22 straight win Rockets cold and broke the longest winning streak in NBA history. They punished them in that game. They were 2-0 against the Lakers during the season. They have had the #1 ranked defense in the league. They had the largest margins of victory of any NBA team. The writing was on the wall.

They went into the playoffs not ever having played together in a playoff series with Ray Allen in a big shooting slump. Firing on 2 out of 3 cyilnders they took care of the next best defensive team, Detroit, that still finished better than LA during the regular season. Where was LA's defense? How can you let a team come back and win from a 23 point deficit AT THE HALF??? How many wide open 3's did Allen get? Where was vagi-itch... I mean Vujacic... defensively? :D

If LA and Celtics played 20 more games, LA would lose 15 of them. Their performance was embarassing. You also have to respect for 3 truly unselfish, hungry, old-time veterans that have paid their dues and joined up together for one purpose.

Doc Rivers completely outcoached Phil lets-insert-chris mihm-here Jackson, and it is now CLEAR that Kobe Bryant is NOT Michael Jordan.

Game 4, Lakers blow a 24 point lead. You don't think Boston could have lost that game? Game 2, Boston nearly blows a 24 point lead and the game was very close at the end. That's close. The last game was not close, that was a blowout. So to say they were never in this thing is just wrong.

Don't just credit the big 3 for the series. I think Eddie House hit bigger shots than any of the Big 3. Powe came up big and so did Posey. That was they key. You can always stop the best players if you throw the kitchen sink at them like they did to Kobe, but the other players will generally step in. I don't know why there is a Kobe vs Jordan comparison here, it simply doesn't apply. What happened to the MJ Wizards? I think Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee would have been unstoppable, too.

Well the difference was that the Lakers did blow the lead, and the celtics didn't. When the celtics absolutely had to make stops they could, but LA couldn't. They just don't have that kind of defense. The difference in defense was glaring. Maybe you see those games as close, but I didn't. I felt Boston was dominant in the series. I was never nervous or doubted this outcome.

On that Wizards comparison. MJ was how old at that point? And in his prime plenty of teams threw the "kitchen sink" at him. He was often guarded by two, three, sometimes four people.

There were 2 really easy games the Lakers could have won which meant they would have won the championship.
too bad the Pats BLEW IT BIG TIME.... sigh.....
Woulda, coulda, shoulda, whine whine whine... I see this over and over again. The true fans, the ones that really know their game, don't make excuses; they give credit where credit is due, and are as graceful in defeat as in victory. Some teams seem to attract a following of such knowledgeable, magnanimous fans, while others get all the "my team is great, yours sucks" yahoos, full of excuses. Heck, sometimes they're even in the same city (metro area), such as the contrast between the knowledgeable fans of the Oakland A's, and the SF Giants fans who continue to claim that Barry Bonds never took steroids (yeah, right  ). I've seen that particular phenomenon here in Chicago, where last year Bears fans were amazingly graceful about their playoff run (expressing sympathy for all that the Saints fans had been through while beating them in the NFC Championship, and admiration, not excuses, for the play of Peyton and the Colts in the Super Bowl), and before that Cubs fans were incredibly whiney about the "Bartman ball" (while Bartman may have affected one play, it was the Cubs, not Bartman, who went on to blow that game and the next one - deal with it, Cubs fans).

When there's a championship, such as an NBA Finals, Super Bowl, or World Series, everyone knows that this is the chance to prove which team is "best". One team does it, and the other team doesn't, end of story. If the losing team were truly better, they would have won, but they didn't so they're not. Spoiled, whiny fans of teams like the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, etc, need to grow up and realize that their teams win when they win because they play better, and lose when they lose because they don't play as well as their opponent. I'm always impressed by those teams whose fans know their stuff and don't make excuses; the A's, St. Louis Cardinals, and Indianapolis Colts come immediately to mind, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has been to their home games.

There is no God. :frown:

J/K. I'm happy for KG - he deserves a ring. I just didn't want him to get one at the Lakers' expense.

Oh well, let Boston enjoy. They're like the Heat - one Championship for the vets, and then they can retire in peace.

Hmmmm..... I think you were wrong on every count including the coach and my "not knowing" basketball.

I was wrong about Boston, but I still think you don't know squat.

So therefore you're whining in protest of whining.

The way I see it, this thread has been relatively good natured. What did you expect? It's a Championship series with loyal fans, so of course there's going to be some ribbing back and forth. And I think the whole 'change your signature' bet is hilarious. Thank God I didn't make that bet.

I read every post fullracehonda makes now... it brings me such joy...

And I have to say he was cool in losing... took it like a man.

Boston dominant? No way, they got the wins and that's what counted. But they were far from being dominant. The last game, now that was dominant. Boston fans were nervous in both of those close games, if you weren't, then a normal thinking, logical fan was.

To say that he would have done any better is pure speculation and ridiculous to be honest with you. It holds about as much water as my Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee reference. It's just as easy to say that he would have done worse. How the heck do you know he would have done any better/worse with Doc's defensive strategy and against these Celtics? You simply don't... So in the end, you look more intelligent if you never make these types of statements...

Bruce Lee would kick Chuck Norris's ass any day of the week. Come on now... we all know that.

Who's making excuses? I was pointing out the fact that the series was closer than some were making it out to be. I gave Boston their full credit, they did what it took to win and won. The Lakers stunk it up. So take some time to read through the thread and understand the connection to each of the posts. FWIW, I watched a Laker game in Chicago once at bar, I think it was ESPN. It was the Lakers vs Kings and I never saw such an anti-Laker crowd in my life. Both teams are westcoast so you would figure that neither would get any favoritism. But you would have thought it was the Bulls playing against the Lakers the way they were cheering for Sac and booing the Lakers. It's something I don't see here in SoCal against other teams, we don't hate...

Come on Malibu, aren't you happy for any of these guys that have been in the league so long? Doc's dad died mid season this year. He cried like a baby when they asked him if he wished his dad was alive to see him win. Leon Powe was homeless. His mom died before she saw him score 22 in an NBA finals game. You gotta be happy for some of these guys.

I can't quite make out what it says on their shirts and hats.. maybe someone could help..

I'll help you out Chado! It says "2008 NBA CHAMPIONS"!!!

Of course I'm happy for them and I congratulate them. They deserve the win. I'll still root and support the Lakers though and this looks like it will be a good rivalry next year if everyone stays healthy on both sides. KG and Powe are both class acts. Allen is a bit of a whiner in my book but he played well.

What happened to the MJ Wizards?

When Mike was on the Wizards he was like, what? 42 years old?? In addition, the Wizards at the time were a lottery team. As for the Celtics vs. Lakers... the series was HORRIBLE! The Celtics vs. 8th seed Atlanta Hawks was more entertaining. Lakers NEED Bynum back and Kobe to quit whinning (demanding trades, pushing players out, etc.) in the off season if they are going to win another championship.

you know what, to be honest with you.... i dont even have an nsx and should be banned from the site and all my posts deleted:tongue:

jk jk i love prime

Allen is a bit of a whiner in my book but he played well.

He played well the night after he had to take his 14 month kid to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Diabetes. He didn't make a peep about it and no one knew until later. I don't think he is much of a whiner.

Could have fooled me...

LOL +1

I m just glad all the Kobe is better than MJ talk will have to Stop now. MJ would have never let that happen in the championship. Kobe lost the Championship Game by same amount of points MJ won a championship game 42. so what I added 3 points lol. Thats just plain embarassing, I hate the lakers and I even felt bad for them last game. I won lot of money so not too bad but it was kinda sad seeing Kobe crying in the end

Well not exactly.....one thing to consider is that Kobe's career is not over, he still has time to increase his "greatness" so to speak. As far as your MJ comment, I'm an avid MJ fan myself, but I just don't see how you can make such an absolute statement, MJ played in a different era, against different players, too many different variables IMO to make such an absolute statement. Lastly, your hatred of the Lakers based on your location, Norcal, is pretty typical, most likely a Kings fan but where were those Kings this year?

Re: the "experts"...

LOL.... This is what I was looking for. Goes to show you they don't know squat. These guys didn't watch any of the regular season games. They just watched the playoffs and said "look Boston is struggling and LA is rolling through". I guarantee that is all they did.

Taken yesterday...
