what sick mind thought up using an airplane as a guided missile in 911? we all know the answer to that.
we had plenty of warning since 93' WTC but nothing was done and now we have copy cats and we still trying not to offend certain group protecting their rights while they are planning the next one.
How can you honestly say "nothing was done"? Seriously?
There has been plenty done, but the sad truth is that nothing can be done to prevent these types of cowardly attacks on civilians. All we can do is be prepared to help the victims, which according to the media, did take place as we have trained for. Prayers out to the victims and their loved ones and hopefully these cowards are caught and dealt with swiftly.

I believe these kinds of event can be eliminated instead of preparing to help the next victim but profiling and privacy is an endless argument in this country. Now the NSA facility in Utah can do something like the movie Minority Report in 2002 to bring down the possibilities.

Unless you want to chuck out every last right you have and enter a total police state, then it's going to be impossible even begin to think that you have a slight chance of stopping everything. We will never know how many plots were thwarted, so it's a little unfair to say this could have been prevented. It's very rare that I will stand up for a 3-letter agency, but let's be realistic.
This was done by some demented and evil person with or without an agenda. God has nothing to do with it. So many crusades, jihads, holocausts and massacres are done in the name of religion throughout the ages. God in what ever form you know him has nothing to do with them. They are conceived and carried out by men, some who use their "out of context" version of faith as justification for their own agenda political or otherwise. Whether this act is domestic or international the bottom line is that innocent men, women and children get killed and maimed just for living their daily lives in peace. It is my prayer that those who are suffering loss and injury find healing and peace. And I hope they find whoever did this and bring them to justice before they kill again.
Consider a prison. A prison is a supposedly secure, controlled environment. Everything is managed and aimed at security. Checkpoints, cameras, guards, inspections, etc. And yet even in this super-controlled and managed environment murders and violence happens all the time.
We can take prudent measures and be cautious and vigilant but we're never going to stop a determined crazy person who wants to hurt or kill people.

Our freedom pisses some people off for whatever reason. It is prudent to take common sense precautions. But, when we start giving up even the smallest of our freedoms in reaction to the terrorist's action, they win. That's why on the first day after 9-11 that the airlines flew again, I took a round trip flight from Dallas to San Antonio just to, in my mind, show my defiance to those @$$OL$. I usually drove that route. I hope next year's marathon has twice as many runners in defiance of these murderers.

The rest of us reasonable people understand that a small subset of people do not represent the whole set of people. With that said, no one is trying to protect the rights of the subset.
And not that reasoning would do any good with you, but we have no idea who was behind these attacks or why.
Minority report was science fiction based on the premise that there existed three beings with the power of seeing the future. You are really embarrassing yourself here.
And if you paid attention to the moral of the story, it is that you cannot with certainty predict a person's future--especially with regards to the crimes they may commit. Try citing a movie (however fictional it may be) that actually supports your argument next time.
I can't help but laugh, and worry at the same time, because no matter how stupid your ideas or arguments are, I know there are others out there that support you--others with the power to oppress the rest of us.
You keep avoiding the harsh truth so that you don't sound like a bad guy. You hide behind a veil of patriotism. You pretend like you are helping this country. Let me tell you something: you aren't.
And if I were to follow your advice, I'd profile you, and your kids, and every one of your family members every time they tried to enroll in a school. That's right: your kids need to get patted down every day before they go to school. And the other kids, that don't belong to their racial/national group, get to sit there judging them and mumbling about them behind their backs all while sitting behind the veil of protecting the school. Then we'd search their backpacks, tap their communication devices, and probably even make some school plays that always stereotyped them as very very bad people--thereby indoctrinating all other kids to always hate them. No matter how innocent you, your kids, or your family members are. Simply because you were the same race or nationality as someone not even remotely related to you committed a crime.
But hey, I'm not being unreasonable am I? I'm just a patriot being "pro-active."

Movies are not far off reality these days. Whats unthinkable 20yrs ago, its happening now. Predictive Policing is being practiced..., not saying its the answer to stop crime completely but the technique will get better as time goes on...like it or not, big data can be very oppressive in the wrong hands/policy. If you do have things to hide, they may pay a visit. If not, stay away from crowded places cuz they can't catch it all.

Thats why we have smart people like you around. This one smells like a home grown bomb as the white cloud is the sign of poorly made nitrate bomb which the excess fuel gets burned up around the top of the fireball. None of the flag poles close by were broken, windows above the blast were intact. the ration of the mix is probably off.

On the second part I agree with you, we have to be defiant and continue to live our lives and not let terror win and our freedom/privacy to diminish. This is the world we live in. We must remain defiant, vigilant and bring those to justice that cause or intend to cause us harm.
I lived a few blocks from there and I was always hanging around Kenmore Sq and the Finish line, so this really hits home for me. It is such a great event that you never even think about something like this happening. It is sad to see bystanders waiting for thier family and friends to pass the finish line get hurt. This is truly an act of terror, maybe not by the definition of "terrorist" which we apply to Middle East/Muslim Extremest etiology, however it's still a terrorist act. Bostonians are a strong group of people, and they'll recover and be a stronger community as a result.

First I said it Pisses "SOME" people off. And, though I'm not sure what my living in Texas has anything to do with it, I don't believe we are hated the world over either. I tried to keep it simple. Geo-politics is messy and confusing. Also, just as some take portions of their own religion out of context to promote their agenda, there are those on the right and the left who do the same with the constitution. We don't always use our freedom properly and many take it for granted.
In an effort to bring this back to the topic, a bunch of innocent people, who did nothing more than enjoy a beautiful day, were killed and maimed by some nut job/jobs with an agenda that trumps the value of life and freedom. In due time we will find out if it is a lone wolf or an organized domestic or foreign terrorist organization and bring them to justice. In the meantime, we should do what ever it takes to help those affected by this evil act recover.

Yeah, I won't be attending any large events for awhile.
If a large part of our population starts to think like you, before we know it, we will be living in country with few freedoms. Don't stop what you are doing, however start being more aware of your surroundings where ever you go. I know I am more "situational" aware when I am at a resturant, supermarket, mall, etc...
In our country there is no way to prevent an attack of this nature. We can only hope that it does not happen more often. I'm a runner, I have qualified for the Boston Marathon (although I've never run it) and I have an eight year old son so seeing that an eight year old was killed really hit home for me. My family has sat at many a finish line waiting for me to cross the line. I can only hope that the coward or cowards that are responsible for this are brought to justice and hung by their balls in Harvard Square.

I don't think so. These types prefer to walk into a place and be known. This was a case of setting off anonymous bombs. Looks like in this case they want to not be known.
