I'll be traveling to L.A. in a couple weeks and I want to locate an old high school friend who lives there now. What's the best way to start my search? I did a Google search, but it was not very helpful.

in additional to google and classmates, yahoo has a good locator capability, as does www.zabasearch.com (which provides access to many govt / public record info free of charge). of course, if you have a phone number, ssan or other specific info, it's typically a few minutes of effort.
