Hi all,
I have a 2003 NSX and was thinking about getting a new wheel. I've been looking at the Momo's and Sparco's and have been wondering about a few things. First of all, is there anyone that is wary about the airbag deletion? Secondly, which hub is considered the best? I am not even sure if that is the right term, lol! Also, what size do you prefer? 300 or 330mm? Thanks.

Yes, the air bag delete is worrying me too. However, I always use my seat belt. I know that an air bag will reduce the chances of injury, but I have also heard otherwise. I hope other people can chime in on the issue of pulling their airbag.

I say give it some time before you do anything. I HATE the NSX steering wheel. Interior pics are ruined by it and it dates the car more than anything.

However, after driving the car for 2 months, I can honestly say I don't even notice it. Maybe the same will happen to you.

I bet you like the steering wheel on your TL more....

The NSX's steering wheel is dated because it doesn't have that many buttons?

Steering wheel was one of my best mods for sure. I had a momo formula, champion, and a settled with a tornado. They are all nice and much better feel than stock.

I really loved the look, feel, diameter and rim thickness of my 2004 S2000's steering wheel. Closest to OEM perfection I have ever felt. (until the airbag deployment lacerated & burned my arm, but that's another story...) Is it possible to swap this part? Has anyone done it? At least it would address the safety issue myself and some others share.

keep the stock steering wheel and airbag?

or get a quick release system and keep the car?

this owner didnt have a quick release system and kept the airbag.
ironically, thats the only thing that is left on the car after.

seek out the facts, make an informed decision for yourself

According to the sources below, a driver is between 12% and 28% more likely to live with airbag and seatbelt than with seatbelt alone:

No one has, as far as I know. It's certainly not a simple swap:

Re: seek out the facts, make an informed decision for yourself

I do know this has been discussed many times here.

I was wondering - just sort of as a place to start - if ANY Acura/Honda steering wheels are swapable. I remember reading that the S2000 one is not possible (quite-a-shame), but are any possible? RL? TL? I haven't looked at any of these wheels to know if they even are worth the swap, but I was just curious if anyone knew. Is it possible that only the NSX steering wheel can be mounted? I obviously know next to nothing about how it works - it just seems odd to me that it would basically be a custom OEM setup if NO other wheels can mount... I just figured somewhere it would share a part or a mount in there.

Since my car is rarely driven, I hated the outdated look of the steering wheel,
Ask member evo575gtc for some suggestions.
I went with a Momo hub, NRG quick release (love that for when I go to track events and for added sense of security take the wheel off when I check into a hotel) and got a Sparco Faster wheel.

Just an FYI. I totaled a BMW M Coupe by hitting a light pole dead on in my younger days and the airbag never even went off.

Now, when I let others (red group or instructors) drive my car, they absolutley love the feel of the Sparco Faster wheel. I love it because it is thicker than the factory wheel and that is why I wanted it (also an overall smaller wheel radius than OEM).

Are any of these aftermarket steering wheels set up for cruise control and the horn to still work?

The NRG setup that Erick installs has the horn contacts through the quick release. Sparco Dual buttons can be added to support Cruise Control. See this post.

Yes, Andy. I have been doing a lot of research and there are lots of wheels made by momo and sparco that can be setup w/the horn and cruise. There is a member by the name of Erick, evof575gtc, who is extremely knowlegeable. I'm going to be ordering my parts from him. Btw, this wheel is the frontrunner: http://www.sparcousa.com/psteering_comp.asp?id=293

i think the stock wheel is ugly too.... same with the supra.... duno why they didn't pay a lil more attention to them...

buuut, i think the momo ones and the R are ugly too. they look mad ghetto.

i'd like to have the new Si steering wheel (make that whole interior) in the nsx.... looks HOTT.

also, what you can't see in those pics.... near the map lights on the roof there is a red mood light that shines on the center console, lighting up the stick and stuff..... it's nice and dim, but looks sweeet. i guess they're doing it to a few vehicles now. i like.

Anyone ever consider the S2000 steering wheel for the NSX? perfect size and thickness plus an airbag.

There is no comparison, aftermarket steering wheel really made a big difference compare to stock.

Where is official prime bad taste nazi when you need him? J/K:biggrin:

IMHO ths steering well would look so out of place on NSX. To each of his own I guess. The S2k steering wheel look really nice on the other hand.

This looks pretty good to me, nothing getting in the way of your hand, pure fun.

I wouldn't give up my airbag for anything, especially something cosmetic.

Are you kidding me??

you guys that are thinking about putting a civic wheel on an NSX...
now thats GHETTO WIGGETY WACK YO!

jk, it does look nice. but too bad IT WONT FIT.

spline count and size is different so that wont work
and also the length of the steering wheel wont work because its too short.

same goes for trying to put an s2k wheel on an nsx.
spline count, spline diameter, an depth/length of the wheel.

im sure you can get a guy to weld a longer up hub spline to the wheel and have another leather guy wrap up the extension.
but im just going to sit back and see who will be the front runner and actually commits this task and follow up and complete it.

so i want to see less talk and more action.

something you might want to think about.
personally, me and many other guys that did the steering wheel mod went with the quick release and lock. not for cosmetics, but for theft deterent rather.

there's already several reported cases here on prime with stolen NSX's.
it could happen to you too!
and its not about if, its when it happens, and its going to suck.
insurance or not, the headache of going through it just purely a pain in the ass.

i have never used my air bags in any of my cars, ever.
when you plan to use it, just put it back.

someone called me?

downgrading a wheel off from a low budget civic. now thats pretty gay. you can swing with the corvette crowd. vettes and cavaliers have the same steering wheels too
