Battery Replacement

Put in the Costco battery as per Manny - no big deal. Except, I can't seem to get the negative terminal cable tight enough on the battery posts. It's snug, but I can still grab it and move it even after I've tightened it as far as possible.

Is there such a thing as a battery post "shim" that would just slightly increase the diameter of the post allowing a tighter fit of the termnal cable?

TIA

I had a similar problem and just found out that if you put the terminal all the way down to the base of the post it'll grab and tighten down. This is because the post gets thicker as you move down to the base. Anyway, it worked for me. I'm sure the shim is probably a safer and better fix. I just get too impatient.

I have found that with running lights and XM, and Radar that I pull a bit of juice especially when in traffic at night with the brakes on (stop light). The radar shows the voltage going from about 13.7 down to about 12.2 on the new battery. My oem at four years of age was reading about 11.7 (night, running lights, xm, radar, brake on).

If you are getting a voltage drop while the car is running then you are stressing the alternator not the battery. I have found thru trial and error that a large battery is sometimes not so good because its internal resistance is also producing a load on the alternator. Batteries like the optima with spiral cell technology are low resistance batteries and can help relieve some of the load on your charging system.
