i knowest that my rubber that goes around the back window is getting dull at some area. Is there a way to make it look new again without replacing? I remember there was a thread about it but can't seems to find it for some reason.

Thanks in Advance!

There are some products that help rubber look newer.

Back to Black is a Mother's product that helps, but it washes off with water.

There is a product called 303 Protectant that treats rubber to keep it in good condition. I used it on my top and plastic back window on my S2000 to keep them in good shape and keep the rear window from getting brittle and cracking. People are often times so scared to touch their plastic back windows, but the reality of it is that the more you play with it and treat it, the better.

I've also seen a product on TV called Wipe New that I've not had any personal experience with, but promises to help rubber and plastic look like new again and stay that way for a very long time.

Hope this helps.

It can be clean with some fine steel wool. It will give it that satin look though, but not a bad thing.

Thats what I was looking for, steel wool. Thanks David!

I rather have a satin look than a faded look and save me some money on buying a new one

It was also posted on prime a few times to use shoe polish....

I'm not sure if it was the paste or liquid, but I believe that's what I read in the past.

If you do use steel wool... make sure you use 0000 steel wool. nothing rough!

After you restore it, try some Honda Shin-etsu grease. Good stuff but expensive. Then again, a little goes a long way. Perfect for keeping rubber seals fresh.

So I got the chance to go pick up some steel wool 0000 today. I have to say "WOW" it works. Look brand new to me. It leaves a satin finish. For $3 and some change the guys that haven't done this yet and have that faded look on your rear window seal go out to Home Depot and get it and do it. Here's a couple pic that I took after it was done.

Wish I thought about using steel wool on that rubber piece! My wallet would have thanked me. haha..

I went a different route however and used Turtle Wax Trim Restorer. I first used a 2000 grit sandpaper to scuff the surface lightly to allow the Turtle Wax Trim Restorer to take and absorb into the rubber. I've since put 2 applications over 3 a month span (the second one probably wasn't necessary) and it's been great!

Thanks to Prime! If it was for this site and the guys here I would of when to the dealer and bought a new rear window seal. Might have to some donation .

may I suggest that next time you dress the photographer properly other than a white underwear? a short and shirt would do.....lolz

FYI: Black plastic and rubber - Peanut Butter. Not the crunchy kind. :) It actually works, it is the oils in the peanut butter. Wipe on and then wipe off. Although, you may have a problem with dogs chasing the car and lick it when it's parked.
