Awesome date with horrible ending... Someone hit my NSX!

So I took my NSX out for the first Date with this chic I met on Saturday and proceeded to drive up Canal Drive into NW Washington, DC and parked at the carpark right by Georgetown Waterfront.

My date and I had a very good seafood dinner and then went for a walk to the monuments. Commercial: I highly recommend an evening dinner date in Washington, DC that includes nighttime viewing of the monuments.

Anyways, back to the topic we finally walked back to the X and as we approach the girl notices the license plate/assembly on the ground and I am already wondering in my mind how bad....

So we walk to the car and inspect the damage. Some idiot tried to drive their front end into my NSX! Fortunately the only damage is from the OEM license plate holder smashing into the front bumper. So right now it is a little pushed in and paint is messed up (obviously).

I had no one to accuse so I kept my composure and placed the plate in the trunk and took my date home. What a night though. I had one of the best dates I have ever had in a long time. The girl was smart and not dull so the evening was really enjoyable until we arrived back to the X. What a way to kill the night.

I already (in my mind) have forgiven the person who did it. It is just going to suck to fix it. I will post up pics when I get home from work. Anyone know cheap place to purchase a pre-sprayed berlina black front bumper?

Why did you forgive the person who did it? Did they do the right thing and leave a note? Did they compensate you for the damage? Did they in any way acknowledge what happened?

People these days are in a big rush to grant forgiveness, even to the malicious and the dishonest (or worse).
You're a better man than me.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. :frown: That is why I won't park my car and walk away from it because there are too many idiots that could run into it and take off. Plus the possibility of vandelism.

I don't know of anyone that offers a presprayed bumper. A good paint shop will need to match it to your car. Keep your eye on the Prime marketplace and they do show up form time to time. Especially owners that are going to an 02+ conversion.

Member Jagtiger had one for sale a while back, not sure if he sold it.

I kindof understand what you saying about forgiving them for that. However, there is no excuse for them not leaving a note giving you some contact info.....unless, the didn't see your car and they didn't even know that they hit it.
Was your car parked by itself?
I had my wife's Honda van hit last year and the girl tried to drive off but my sister-in-law chased her down and got her to come back. Come to find out, the girl didn't have car insurance and provided false info to the police officer responding to the crash. I had to pay my deductible to get the van fixed and the insurance company is still trying to contact her to recover their money and my deductible. The girl told me at the scene that she would 'take care of my deductible'. Well, I tried contacting her by phone, leaving notes on door, etc. for months after this happened with no luck.
So, I forgave her to for hitting me but I still expected her to honor her word and pay me back.

I'm glad your date went well... may it continue to develop into something special.

As for the car, that bites. Ouch. Then again, it is just a car, even though an extremely nice one.

If you need a new front plate holder the SOS one that tilts at 30 degrees, straight, or folds away is nice... I purchased one after finally getting a warning since NE is a two plate state... even though I see vettes, vipers, mustangs, & trans-am's without them on the streets.

I do like the looks of the NSX better without a front plate.

As for granting forgiveness... that is very wise IMHO. More for you than for the person who did you wrong. Holding on to unforgiveness only keeps you hooked to that person/incident, not leaving you to be free. Unforgiveness will only fester and lead to bitterness or worse. This is from my personal experience and observing what holding onto unforgiveness has done to others.

I could really go onto the negatives that unforgiveness leads to in life, but I'll spare you all.

But if you do catch the person... they need to pay up for sure, including an appology.

Thankfully, the damage wasn't worse. Keep us posted... including pictures of the damage and repaired.

Sorry about your car. I have had two similar incidents with two different outcomes. One, like yours, drove right up my hood and left the scene. the other scratched the fender and nose and left a note.

Sorry for your misfortune, but please post a pic of your date.

You guys are funny...this was his first date. You think he would actually take a picture of her? If he tried that then I suspect there wouldn't be a second date.

There have been threads about taking dates in the NSX. I probably wouldn't do it so my date wouldn't think I was trying to impress her. Better to know she likes you for you and not the income stream.

Hope you get the car fixed soon.

we need some pictures of both, so we can take better conclusions .....

:D

Oscar

PS: I am sorry .. that sucks ... I hope it takes close to nothing to fix ...

SUCKS man! :(

I absolutely HATE the feeling of coming out and finding this kind of BS with ANY of my cars, let alone the NSX.

Extremely good move keeping your composure though!! As tempting as it would have been to vent, theres a 99% chance the chick would have been put off by it. You scored BIG points by keeping your cool.

I would have grabbbed her and started crying like a baby and thanked her for being there other wise I dont know what I would have done

ROFL. The sympathy/sensitive move! VERY powerful... This is advanced though. Handled improperly it COULD be disastrous (fair warning)

Now, when you say you took the girl home, was this to imply that you dropped her off at your place or hers? Just not clear on this one point. Giggity.

Yeah, they better have been backing up an F-650 with a lift kit and fifty foot triple axle trailer to play that card.

Don't worry, unattended parking is a way over-rated feature of a daily driver. Probably better to just live in the car. That way if someone tries to make a move, you can surprise them every time. After all, it's the only way to be sure.

Their have to be video cameras everywhere around the monuments. Probably to keep an eye on the surface to air missile batteries. Might want to try the Department of Homeland Security or the National Reconnaissance Office. Might get a referral to the secret service, but surely someone can probably get you the video evidence you need.

LOL... yeah... thats how it is on the first date. If you were married and saw that, you'd be screaming "F'in mother F*&*R!!!" from about 50 feet away. Way to internalize the pain bro...

My thoughts exactly.
However, if the NSX is your only car then you don't really have much of a choice then. Unless you can borrow a car from someone to use on the date.

I disagree. NSX is great date night car.
No awkward silences. ever.
Got nothing else to say? Upshift and let the exhaust howl for a while.
Also doubles as a vibrator at the right RPM. Takes care of the foreplay:wink:

..Hope your car comes out of this OK..

Sorry for the delay, went on a second date with the girl last night. And on that note does anyone have a DC tagged silver 2003-2005 NSX? I parked in the same car park.

Ok here is the picture after pushing the bumper back out... Sorry didn't have the initial. All of the brackets are fine. This picture doesn't show the crack well but you can see the line and what not.

I think we all agree on that, but MD requires it. I was going to make my own modified license plate like SOS, but glad I didn't as the damages would have been worse.

And for everyone who would rather see my date instead she is columbian... I would say that personality and character is what makes this girl.

LOL That would have worked with this girl.

Yea you have a valid point, but you can figure that out pretty quick. In my case the girl just likes me.

I have a Triumph Daytona 675 (motorcycle for those who don't know)
I also have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee which I have had for 9 years, repainted metallic gray and fully charcoal leather interior from Euro Cherokee. Soon to install my euro spec motor from England and Turbo it.
Now, when you say you took the girl home, was this to imply that you dropped her off at your place or hers?
Hers, I don't do anything on first dates, not my style anymore.

Meh... it's almost too much work, but Thompson Boat Center is right there and I know they have cameras and can check that, but I have already shrugged it off and moving on with life. I'll end up doing the body repairs myself and then get the entire car repainted early next year.
