I was thinking is it possible to covert a Automatic to a Tiptronic/Pedal shifter (F1 style) on most cars that have this system they run on a automatic base with some electronic input systems.

I have seen this AT Pro System from Ritmo in Japan for a Automatic NSX to make it feel like a Manual (changing shift the points)

could it be possible to make a semi automatic NSX out of a automatic?
And what would it cost?

Lots of $$$$ if I am thinking of what you are trying to accomplish. Like a F-1 paddle shift on a Ferrari right? Plus you will still need to make the car faster to make that paddle shifting feel worth it.

I suggest buying a F-car if you want that.

But if thats not what I am thinking and you just want it to shift faster then it should be no problem.

I think he's just talking about the auto trans that changes gears when user wants it to, like how Aston DB9's trans does.(i suppose new Jag's trans do that too..), not like F-car's trans which is actually a manual, that just handles clutch automatically..

I think it should be possible, it should just be a simple reprogram of transmission gear shift mechanism, with user input coming from (most likely custom) paddles mounted anywhere ..

But, I'm not sure if that's possible to do on NSX. :)

edit- but then NSX's Auto is 4 speed.. so I don't think it's worth it, to be honest, unless one is changing out the whole trans to 5 or 6 sp, but by then one could probably just buy sequential shifter and put that in and have full automated real manual.

Thats what I thought after I saw how much the part cost.

If its cheap and do-able then why not.

There's been plenty of cars from factory with this mechanism installed, even some Honda's here in Holland.
I've driven an Audi A4 V6 Bi-turbo dsl with one of those manual/auto transes, and you use it for the first 1 minute, and never look at it again.

Proper paddle shift goes together with a normal gearbox, not an auto transmision, and from what i read and people i spoke to, still those are crap.

Thanks for the replys but i was just wondering if it would be possible. Not intrested my self as i would go for a manual NSX

I have seen the sequential kit for NSX (5MT only) and that's what i would take would prefer that to a paddle shifter any way for the NSX
