What do you mean by "notchy?"

It sure as hell can shift "purposefully" when you want it to -- but it doesn't seem "notchy" and 2nd is not particularly different than any other gear on mine.

I'd agree with this statement. The shift can be sharp under spirited driving, but I wouldn't call it notchy.

"Notchy" is a word that describes stiffness in moving the gearshift knob on a manual transmission.

I'm not sure how that applies to an automatic.
