Automatic or Standard?

Hummm..very interesting...I remember on a thread a while back I noted that the Asian market seems to prefer Automatics...I was quickly made out to be a racist...

As far as getting an Auto for "stop and go traffic"????....get an Accord or TL auto to drive to work...leave the Manual trans NSX at home...JMO

Well I certainly wasn’t surprised to wake up this morning to see your well supported response. You’ve earned most all of your 20,000 posts and I do respect your opinion. Some of the points you make I actually agree with like the narrow-minded view some have on this subject, and like you, I’m not saying the auto is better or worse either. To me it’s to each their own. I just feel differently about the general view on this subject from what I have read over time based on some of those same posts you formed your opinion from. Actually, I did the same search you did prior to my first post. I could have taken the time to cut and paste quotes from other members supporting my position similar to what you did, but don’t have the time or inclination….but that doesn’t mean my opinion is incorrect or less valid just because I didn’t…it just means I see it differently and it’s my opinion.
Fair enough.

Is an Automatic NSX really worth getting?

I see a lot that sell for less. Ever drive your 5 or 6 speed NSX in bumper to bumper traffic?( I have it really sucks) No worry about snap ring or a clutch?

Not as much fun to drive.

What is the NSX Prime members take on this?
I don't think you should get an automatic NSX just because it costs less; it might or might not cost less (usually any difference is rather small), but it will be more difficult to sell when you some day sell it.

If you often drive in bumper to bumper traffic, and you would be unhappy driving a stick in those circumstances, then yes, you might be better off getting an automatic NSX, but a better solution would be to get a manual NSX as a second car, and use the other car for commuting in rush hour.

If you're concerned about the snap ring issue, get an NSX that isn't in the snap ring range.

Clutch? I don't worry about it; if and when it needs replacing, I get it replaced.

I think an automatic NSX is a good idea for those who prefer driving automatics (and there are many reasons why some folks do so). However, it sounds like you really prefer a manual NSX, and if you do, then that's what you should get. Don't settle for something that's not what you want.

Disclaimer: I have a manual transmission NSX, because that's what I prefer.

Awhile back I read an article that said that Honda created the automatic NSX for those individuals that want the prestige of owning an NSX, but not really for performance. My personal preference is an automatic, and my 1st NSX was an automatic one. Why? 2 reasons - I'm lazy, and I did not know how to drive stick.

Flash forward to now, I've learned how to drive stick, and I traded my automatic in for a manual.

I do agree that my personal preference is still the auto because eventhough I know how to drive stick now, I'm still very very lazy.

But like my previous posts, I could not bring myself to get another automatic since all the improvements to the NSX over the years only really applied to the manual version. Trading it in for another automatic is like getting the exact same car again.

However, having own both cars there is no denying that the NSX manual is definitely a better performer. You can instantly tell the difference in any gear. It just feels much lighter on its feet.

My final piece of advice is, drive both versions and see which one you like the most. Like what nsxtasy said, it does really boil down to personal preference.

I have driven both. I have owned three NSX with standard no Auto. Never thought it was worth getting. The other half can't drive a stick.

I drive a stick now to and from work. Just don't like to shift some times.

Of the 8 corvetts I've owned 2 were standards the rest were Auto.

Paddles on on the 360 were fun. The NSX auto just does not function as well.

Just thought I might get an auto since the wife can drive it also.

After this thread, I've decided to just get the 6 speed.
