AUTO IN MOTION test drive

Signed up for Sunday at 10: am.

Pre-registration is closed when I called at 9 am today.

ss_md, how did you get a 10am slot? I even called the service rep center and they said just to show up and register in person.

Maybe you signed up for the Inglewood one?

is El Toro open? We moved to MCAS Miramar a few years back.... I figured El Toro would be a desolate, weed-overgrown dump by now.

Cool!

I Spent about 4 hours there today. Lot's of fun. From what I can tell it's sponsored by GM and they have competitive cars because they're trying to prove how great THEIR cars are.

It's a great format, very smart on GM's part:
You get a wrist band that has an H2 and Vette tear off on it. Oh yeah, it has a 'cafe' one too - they give you lunch :D
They have different venues and each one has it's own autoX course.

The trick is if you want to drive the H2 on their off-road course you have to drive another Truck or SUV first. If you want to drive the Vettes (Z06 or Automatic) you have to drive one of the passenger or luxury cars.

The Z06 was fun to drive but it doesn't have the stable feel of the NSX. It did however convince me I need to start thinking about a supercharger - 405HP to the wheels is n-i-c-e!

Bummer on the SUV's was they usually have an MDX which I wanted to drive but it didn't make this event for some reason - I think GM was just chicken.

Had a great time out there but go early and drink lots of water. It is HOT
 out there.

Have fun. I forgot my camera so maybe someone can post some pics for the others.

Socal- sounds good, I have mine next weekend.

DO you know how they do additional drivers? I only registered myself.

also- did you see what kids activities there were, and 405 hp for the Z06, were you able to exploit it??? I would think they would be watching that closely...

thanks

Lot's of people have kids there and they even have child-seats you can use. I didn't see any kid-specific things and I think they want you to bring the kids with you on the drives. There was a radio control car track over by the H2's but it wasn't working.

I'm not sure how they handle the extra drivers because when my buddy got there they had him register on his own. THAT might be the answer but i'm not sure. My guess is that they allow them to drive too and it's more of a marketing gimmick.

405 vs 410hp? Maybe mine had a clean air filter! :D

With the Vette's and the H2's they have a person ride along with you. In the Z06 the guy holds the E-Break incase you come in to the turn too hot. He said he hadn't needed it but the H2 guy said they threw someone out for blowing through the course too fast. He got 2 wheels off over the hill and came pounding down. They threw him out on the spot.

The track for the Vette's started with a 1/8th mile straight away into a sweeper so I got a good chance to feel 405HP 0-whatever.

Really fun. Great gimick for GM.
Have fun.

The course layout for the Z06 was terrible. Too short and can't go fast enough to test anything.
Ditto! They are trying to push a lot of people through and I think the idea was to get people in the cars to motivate them to go a dealership. Great marketing!

I was thinking of not going , but I thought what the heck! So off I go, dragging my wife with me in the heat. The best thing was that GM provided all of the water and soft drinks you could consume!

I think it depends what you were after. If you wanted to get a general ideas of various cars without going to 10 different dealerships, it's a good deal. If you wanted a TRUE test drive, go to the dealer. One of the brochures they handed out there talks about the 24 test drive from a variety of dealers including Chevrolet.

Ya think you could pick it up at 8AM and return from Vegas at 8 the next day? Maybe stop at Pahrump on the way there?

That would be fun!
